Ok, have you removed the top yet? First Off: UNPLUG THE UNIT FROM THE WALL PLEASE. To remove the top, open the door, and at the top of the cabinet where the door closes, you should see either 2 or 4 screws depending on the age of the unit. Remove these screws and lift the top off. On the inside of the unit at the top, on either side, you should see a screw that holds the front onto the cabinet. Remove these screws, then tilt the front down and then off from the bottom hooks. Be careful when removing that you dont pull any of the wires off the safety switch, thermostat, light, etc. Use caution when replacing the felt seal, the edges around any metal parts are seriously sharp, and will cut you badly. Good luck and let me know if you need further help.

How do I replace the felt seal

Most felt seals are glued in with a hi temp glue. Without seeing it I can't be sure but I think the drum has to come out to fix it properly. The glue can be purchased from most parts suppliers and sometimes comes with the new seal.

New Drum Install - Rubbing

Ken, Don't know if this will be of any help or not, as I've never seen a dryer drum with the felt seal on the front. All of the machines I've repaired, (and that's a bunch), had the felt seal on the rear of the drum, with the front being supported by the configuration of the front panel where the door is located. Mostly the front of the drums were supported by small strips of teflon, or cork, as slides, but that's it. Never had one with felt in front. Is it possible the drum is in backwards?

Drum scrubbing noise

The drum is supported by a bearing in the rear and a felt slide in the front.

Here is a picture and pricing of the felt slide:

Here is a kit including both slides and the bearing plus other stuff:

Here is an excellent website that shows you how to open the dryer up:

This is not terribly complicated to do. Contact me if you need further help with this.

Good luck.

There is a plastic oval piece that fits between the inside of dryer door and outer drum. This piece broke apart. Is this the cause of the noise when dryer is on? Close can easily get caught between frame...

Most frigidaire dryers have front felt seals with nylon slides on top that the front of the drum rides on. Without M# can't be sure if yours is like this.

Maytag dryer is leaving black marks or rings on clothes

If your clothes get marked or torn in your dryer, check these: Rollers Rear seal Front glides Front seal Rollers Your dryer may use rollers, or wheels, to support the rear of the clothes drum. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rollers wear out, you need to replace the whole set. Rear seal Your dryer may have a felt-like seal at the rear of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, clothes can get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rear seal wears out, you need to replace it. Front glides Your dryer probably uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the glides wear out, you need to replace them as a set. Front seal Many dryers have a felt-like seal at the front of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, the clothes in the dryer may get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the seal wears out, you need to replace it.

Whirlpool duet dryer felt seal replacement

The drum may to be removed to install the new felt gasket but the old drum can then be reinstalled. The felt gasket seals the joint where the drum rotates at the inside back panel. It is likely that the inside back panel can be removed when the dryer is placed front-down and the outside back panel is removed. In that case the drum does not have to come out.

Amana Dryer belt instalation

Remove the power to the unit and the bottom access panel. Remove the front bulkhhead where the drum sits on by undoing four screws one for each corner.Verify felt seal on exhaust fan cover is airtight on flange of duct. If seal is installed improperly air flow will be restricted which can cause poor dryer performance.Belt must be positioned around cylinder between center and rear bafflescrews with the ribbed surface against the cylinder. You gotta push up on the spring loaded idler pulley the easily slip on the belt to the motor shaft. make sure that the ribbed part of the belt wraps around the drum and motor shaft and not kinked.
