    i have the manual, the unit powers up, display works, you can see the volumn scale go up when you turn it up. There is no output to the speakers like a relay isnt coming on. insignia told me it was internal, they know the issue, take it to a repair place, they will know what to do. i don't want to put a lot of money in it for something simple.

    I have down a reset. no change. The speakers all work. Insignia knows the problem, they just won't tell me because i am not a repair center. As posted I have bought 2 of these units and they have both done the same thing.

    ok fine then if you dont want to go to the company this is what you can do..

    open the unit and see yourself for any burns and any open connections ..

    since you said u r able to see VOL up and down i think the problem must be in main board and not in power board..

    because if power board is gone then you cant get anything working in unit.

    so open and check the mai circuit board and look what has happened inside.

    if u r handy in electronics then
    you can also do some testing of the board of the proper voltage that is expected..

    if u dont have any previous experience then service center will be a best option

Hi,

With the indulgence of the other posters.

Most current designs of this type of device uses some sort of micro computer to handle most of its functions. Having said that, perhaps what you can try is to do a systems reset. To do a systems reset, with the unit off, press on the TEST button. Without letting go, you need to power-on the unit till the display shows "SYSTEM RESET". This is illustrated likewise in the manual as link posted by maklean and coolguy008.

If this is not corrective, then it can be assumed that there is a systems/hardware failure. If all else works except the sound, then perhaps it is the internal protection circuitry of the amplifier that is activated due to defective components or speaker/wires as posted by the others.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedure or the suggestions of the others, you may need to seek the services of a qualified professional as others have also posted.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.

    Hi again,

    Would you consider doing a Do-it-Yourself (DIY) test/diagnosis/repair?

    If yes, you need to be comfortable and familiar working with electronic circuitry and components, use of a DVM and/or a continuity tester and even perhaps a soldering iron.

    Additionally, a friendly reminder, opening the unit other than authorized service personnel would void the warranty.

    Should you want to venture, pls post back and perhaps the members of the Fixya community can walk you through generic/generalized procedures.

    Cheers.

    Hello again trukdude,

    Appreciate your patience and post back.

    To summarize what has been tried/done and/or can be assumed so far:
    1. happened on first unit, tried 2nd unit and same occurrence;
    2. followed the manual and done a RESET;
    3. visually, unit is working but no sound, no relay click;
    4. no strange popping sound, burnt smell, arcing
    5. all cord, speaker wires, connections verified;
    6. all attached speakers tested good 4~8 ohms; and
    7. you are considering a DIY.

    What perhaps can be done:
    a. open the unit (no warranty issue to worry)
    b. do visual inspection - look for the obvious, burned resistors, loose connection, open fuse, discoloration, blistered capacitors, oil smear, anything out of the ordinary such as excessive heat build-up;
    c. look for a mini switch near the controller IC (if it's got one, manual full/hard reset);
    d. do initial voltage checks - logic circuits would have 5VDC, relay triggers would be, 12VCD, preamps and amps would have possibly +/- Supply anywhere from 18 to 36VDC. They would normally be fused (slow blow) separately from the system;
    e. run a separate amp/spkr connected to the Line Out or Aux Out of the Insignia IS-HC040917. If the external amps work, then problem is isolated to amp section.
    f. amp section wouldn't vary so much from basic designs. I suspect that you can wing it even with the absence of a service manual and/or schematic diagram.

    Would appreciate if you can post any updates. Good luck again.

    Additionally, may I extend an invitation to your continuous patronage or participation as a regular Community member of Fixya specially in your field of interest (Engines).

You have a pattern developing. Either the amps have a comon defect (which I didn't find when searching the net) or you have a problem in your system causing this. Try connecting it to some other speakers if possible for starters. Does the display show any sound levels so you know if the signal is getting to it for sure? Some amps will shut all the outputs off if it detects anything wrong with the speaker impedances.
Hope Ya Fix It!

I need a new dvd / blue player to go with my rx-v795aRDS Amp what work with this amp ?

Any DVD player will work with your receiver, as long as you are not using SACD output jacks. Not all units use this output, so if you are using these connections, make sure you buy another unit that also possesses these connections. HDMI connections are also something to consider. 1. The easiest solution would be to connect a stereo RCA (red and white) cable to the audio output on the back of your TV.
2. Then connect the other end to the input on your home theater system.
3. Change the home theater system to the correct input.

Good luck!

Compatibility fo TV and Sound system

TV has audio outputs, the RCA cable type. If you connect the audio output (red,white) from the TV(look on the back), and connect the RCA cable to Input of home theater system,you should get TV sound from home theater system. You may have to set the audio on the TV for external source. Go to menu, to audio setup, to options. On the Home Theater system, you may have to select the audio source, i.e. audio input 1, etc.

No surround sound through tv

May be you have to set the Pro-logic option soundfield, this will matrix a 5.1 surround sound effect, unless of course you are sending a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio signal from your TV broadcast into the Home theatre system, also have to check the TV audio output to send audio output to a Home theatre system in other than 2 channel stereo.

How do i get surrond sound for just tv shows

surround sound only comes over the digital out on back of the TV or better, on back of the Verizon boc, itll be a orange RCA jack I believe or the fiber TOS link, These go into your receiver into the same style jack. Digital in may only be associated with the DVD input. if your tv has a HDMI input, you can use the HDMI cable from the convertor box to the TV and then the digital out on the TV into the receiver, but I like the digital out to go straight to the receiver from the convertor box. HDMI tpo the TV will allow you to watch TV on the internal speakers if you dont want to use the amp.

No Sound In Home Theater with Dish HDTV DVR Dual Mode Remote Connection

HDTV is not carried via coaxial cable from tuner, you need HDMI or the 5 RCA cables that are different colors. I forget if they are called component or composite, I think they are called composite, the R and W are sound. If you run the HDMI or composite cables to your TV, there should be a variable out or audio out on the back of the TV that outputs ANY sound coming into the TV, like Wii, DVD, tv, etc. So if you want to listen to tv sound, just pipe the audio out to the receivers available input and turn it up. Cant be used with mag input (turntable) all others are compatible. Did this answer your question? Sat cables are usually kept under 130 ft from the dish, and the dish receiver can output coaxial signal over 400ft on RG-6 cable. HDMI is limited and can get very expensive. Does your sat box have a coaxial digital out (orange RCA) you can use that if your receiver can read it, usually associated with the DVD input or video input, but only for digital encoded programs.
