Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP Photosmart C6180 won't print

HP Photosmart C6180 All in one that has worked for months, now won't even print a test page! It won't print from a file. We checked all the cords, restarted computer and the printer, unplugged and replugged all the cables, rechecked all connections. It will, however, make copies.

    I am having the same non-printing problem. Checked cables for connection problems. Printer makes copies. Was there a virus that attacked the HP Photosmart printer? My friend has an HP printer that also stopped printing also.

    I have the same problem, the only thing that looks wrong is the port - different IP address - have you checked that - I am running windows vista via a wireless networking system - I have phoned hp and they just tell me to uninstall and reinstall the drivers but that does not fix the problem - it's really temperamental!

    my printer decided to stop printing the entire document. If I print the alphabet I will only get the top third of the letters. If I print a picture I will only get 3 1/2 x6 of my 4x6.

    The choice to choose the C6180 off of my laptop disappeared about 1 month ago. I have tried to redownload the driver several times, it says it's successful but when I try to print a document, the C6180 is not showing up as a choice in the printer dialogue box??

    *Worth noting, I hvae 2 other Pc laptops and a Macintosh on the network and they can print??

    After i print one copy the power supply trips off. Unplugging and replugging restarts printer and repeats problem.

Ok, so it seems that there are a few different people with the same result but different issues.

If you are connecting over wireless network then first check the IP address on the printer. Push the setup button and then go down to network and then view network settings and then display wireless summary. There will be a host name and an IP address. Write down the IP address on a piece of paper and press cancel on the printer to go back to main menu. Now if IP was 169 or no link then the printer is not seeing the network and you need to go to setup - network - wireless setup wizard and follow prompts and check IP again - if still 169 or no link you have a router issue, otherwise you can continue.

Now go to your computer and check the IP address for it. The first three numbers should be the same - for instance on printer should have an IP on computer of or any number for the last one. If IP's are not the same for the first 3 then your printer and computer are not on the same network. If IP on printer is not on the same network then you will have to make sure that your computer is on your network and not on someone elses - if it is then run wireless setup wizard on the printer (see steps above) and then the IP's will match.

Now for all of you USB connectors the issue can be caused by 2 things and being able to copy is the key here. The printer is capable of printing but it is not receiving the print job which can be caused by connection or by software. Generally if software related you see some sort of error message in regards to an hp application or the print job itself. I will be honest that I am more mac technical so I will describe how to see it here - I have tried to search on a pc to no evail - you may have to try to print to see if you are connecting. On the mac click on the apple in the top left and go down to about this mac and then click on the more info button. On the left you will see a long list - click on USB and then to the right it will show you all items connecting with a USB - if printer is listed then you have a software issue - if not then it is the connection.

Scenario 1 - connection issue. This is caused by 1 of three things. Bad USB port on your computer, bad USB cable, bad port on the printer. First swap the USB cable into a spot that already has a working item in it if you can - if the printer is now connecting then you have a bad port on your computer. Still not working? Then lets replace the USB cable - preferrably from another working printer but you may have to purchase. Are you up yet? No? Well then it seems the port on the printer is bad and you will have to replace it - sorry.

Scenario 2 - software issue. If the issue is caused by software then you first must uninstall the hp software and then download the drivers by clicking on your operating system in the link and then going to the most recent version under the software heading.

HP C6180
won't make a Document copy...because it won't print in black ...will print in color any time from PC.
rebooted...won't print black in alignment or cleaning modes.
Any ideas?

    I've go the same problem with my HP C309a. I've been told it's probably a blown fusible link in the printhead (replace printhead!) or a broken lead in the trailing cable (hard to diagnose and even harder to replace).

Perform a hard reset of the printer electronics to factory defaults. Reinstall the software and drivers and print out a test page. If unsuccessful, there is something seriously wrong with the printer. You can try it with another computer just to make sure that it is not an issue with your OS.

HP C6180 color copies (on plain paper) aren't full color

Here's the official HP solution for what you're experiencing. If you try all the steps suggested and you still have a problem, remember that you can contact HP for warranty support for the cartridges you've purchased - even if your printer is out of warranty.
One thing I'd try first is to print a self-test page. If you print a self-test page and the colors appear normal, you can rule out the iMac as the source of the problem.
The instructions for printing a self-test page are similar to the c7280 shown in the following video.

Black ink will not print on Photosmart C6150; Ink

I'd do the reboot of the printer.Turn it off,unplug for 60 seconds,plug it back in,turn it back on and see if the black will work.After plugging back in it should clean the print head and then you can do a test page to make sure.

My C6180 suddenly takes FOREVER to print a page, even a one-word document which I did as a test. It used to print a page in a couple of seconds,. Now each page takes 30-40+ seconds. Maddening. Help.

HP C6180 responds to print but puts out blank pages

All I had to do was clean the print head. Try these steps: Press setup, scroll down to tools. Select clean printer head. The printer will run a clean cycle and then print out a diagnostic test page.

HP Photosmart C6180 colors no good - missing colors & muted. No longer aligns print when requested, per HP note at end. Already cleaned print heads,[OK], aligned printer numerous times-doesn't work....

try resetting the printer using the # and the number 6 buttons,holding them down and then inserting the power cord at the back of the printer.

well its a issue with the printer drivers,chk if there are any documents pending in the printers and faxes under thecontrol panel,if yes delete the document,if it does not delete,restart thecomputer and try it again,if it still does not delete,uninstall the printer drivers and reinstall them back in.

Why is my HP Photosmart C6180 printing gibberish?

Yeah you need to buy a software for your HP that is apple compatible. The CD you installed is specifically defaulted for windows. It will install the software for you but because its coded differently, neither one of them will understand one another. Its like giving a blind person a book with no brile in it. He can pick it up and change the pages ok but he wont be able to read it. I think you can download the software for HP's website or google it.
