What is the operating system on the computer ?
If it is WINDOWS XP then you can use the windows utility to connect to the wireless network. It i better to use windows utility. You will need to start the wireless zero configuration. If it is WINDOWS VISTA / 7 then it will automatically use the windows utility.
You will also need to check the wireless settings of the router. Is there any other computer online using the router ?
If yes then you can use that computer to open the set up page of the router to check the wireless settings.

Gateway 600yg2

I may not be understanding what you are stating, so bear with me;

1) The Wireless Modem antenna wires are up in the Display Assembly,

http://www.mundocorp.com/shopexd.asp?id=1160

In otherwords they should already be there.

2) The 802.11 Mini PCI Card, is a Wireless Module.
It goes in the Mini PCI Compartment, under the Mini PCI Compartment Cover, located on the bottom of the laptop.

It's made by Broadcom,

(Gateway 6002672 part number)

See at the Top right where it states Main, and has a white Side Arrow?
This terminal is where the Black wire (Lead) of the wireless antenna connects to.

The other terminal, AUX, is where the White wire connects to.

REMEMBER, remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery, before working on the laptop. Also follow Anti-Static Precautions.

My gateway laptop cant connect to the internet. _When I plug a cable, the red light in the port does not respond _ The WIFI does not respond

Hello John,
It seems that: 1. Your LAN controller and the WiFi controller could be disabled in your BIOS setup. To re-enable them, if applicable,
  • Press the F1(or F2 ) key repeatedly after restarting the computer to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Navigate through your BIOS and locate the settings for LAN conroller and wireless, and select Enabled to enable them.
2. You may not have the appropriate drivers installed on your laptop for your network controllers. Upon further investigation, your laptop runs on the following network hardware:
  • ActionTec IEEE 802.11b network card installed in Mini PCI expansion slot
  • Broadcom BCM94306 IEEE802.11g network card installed in Mini PCI expansion slot
  • Broadcom BCM94300 IEEE802.11a/g network card installed in Mini PCI expansion slot
Download and install your drivers for the hardware above from: Wireless Drivers(Broadcom BCM94306) from http://www.soft32.com/download_175098.html Broadcom BCM94306 10/100Mbps LAN drivers from http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/downloaddrivers.php
Hope this solution helps.Good day.

No wireless networks were found in range

Make sure there are no electrical devices interfering with your rang such as TV's, microwaves, or 2.4GHz phones. Cell phones can also interfere with the connection. Then try going a little closer to your wireless router and see if you can pick it up.

-OR-
Broadcom IEEE 802.11b/g network card, Mini-PCI (Celeron™ M models only)
  • FN+F2 keyboard combination toggles wireless networking
  • Antenna: Uses factory-installed internal antenna assembly
  • Operating channels: 11 selectable channels
  • Security: 128 and 64 bit WEP encryption
  • Operating Frequency: 2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum

Wireless router not detected by laptop

Hi!

First, make sure you know the SSID (name of your wireless network) and Network key (if your wireless router is secured). Also, make sure that the SSID broadcast of your laptop is enabled (this is an option in the router if they will broadcast the signal or not).

I assume that your laptop came with a built in Broadcom adapter. Depending on the brand of your laptop, there is always a wireless switch. You need to look for the wireless switch and turn it ON. For most laptops it's a sliding switch on either the side or front of the laptop. For some it's a combination key - like pressing FN + F2 at the same time.

For XP laptops, you can use the XP wireless utility located on the lower right side of your screen like this :

6857344.jpg
For some reason the XP utility cannot detect any signal and it's telling you that "Windows cannot configure this.. if you enable another utility, use that software to connect", that only means that there is another software in the computer that is running the wireless connection. You can go to Start > All Programs and look for that utility - you can start by searching a program like broadcom.

For Vista , look for this icon to connect:

I hope that helps.

Good luck and have a nice day!
