Faults & possible causes to LCD & Plasma screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent.
Possible cause of the problrm is bad/poor solder on the grounds for the tuner circuit shield an the bottom (solder side) of the circuit board. Grounds need a wire jumper from point to point. This was a common problem for those sets and ocassionally it would take out the eeprom chip with it. (Various other problems were shrinking picture/fuzzy picture and intermitt. power)
I simply opened the TV set, and surprisingly found condensation on some of the electronic panels. I pulled out my blowdryer and aired them on low....reassembled the tv, and then turned it back on. Boy, was I surprised that it worked! That's how I got my picture back. Works fine now. Thanks.
YOU'VE LOST VERTCAL DEFLECTION---THIS COULD BE SOME PARTS IN THE VERTICAL SECTION BAD,,LOST A VOLTAGE GOING TO THE CIRCUIT OR WORST CASE ----FLUID FROM THE PICTURE TUBES HAVE LEAKED ON THE CIR BOARDS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM---NEED TECH FOR THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!
sounds like an intermittant connection on the convergence IC'S or the vertical sweep curcuit. I would advise that you seek to have this fixed as soon as possible as tapping on the side can and will cause other problems in the set.. I would also advise that if your not an experienced tech take the set in to a repair shop. Good Luck
Does it like tune and detune and then retunes back to a pic all by itself??? sounds like the typical problems rca/ge sets mostly have in common with bad tuner grounds.. you must open the set remove the bottom tuner sheild and resolder all the grounds along with the little post that hold on the sheild to the tuner. Now this is not a job for the hobbiest!!! You can cause a small solder splash and ruin the set for life cause you may think that you got out that little solder splash BUt unaware to you you also have taken out some very tiny parts that look like a pieces of dirt that are surface mount resistors and capacitors.
