Hello: My copier is reading an error code L4 and the drum light is on. I purchased a new drum and installed it, but when I turned it on again, I still get that same error code and the drum light is still on. What must I do to get the copier to operate again?

Remove the process unit, remove the drum & check the waste toner
auger & gear assembly.
You will probably find this is seized or broken
due to excessive drum cleaning.
When changing the drum & developer,
you must reset the rotation counters as well as the drum/dev counters. Otherwise, there is excessive over-toning, leading to waste toner
filling the toner cartridge waste area too quickly & therefore
leading to waste toner auger assembly blocking up.
You will probably need a new process unit as the auger drive gear has been known to break off the frame.
There is new firmware for this problem. Have a service professional update the firmware for this device and the problem will be gone.
L4 error code mean your copier motor fail problem.
Please press # Interrupt C interrupt press 16 press start key or print key.If are not fix this problem please check motor fuse or any kind of gear was broken.
One cause that we have found on these particular models is the waste toner auger (built in the drum unit) drive gear breaks due to blockage or failure of the auger. You can remove the drum unit by 1st removing the toner then developer tank then a blue screw will loosen the drum unit. Once out look at the back of the drum unit and you will see 3 little white gears. Check for damage or missing gears. If they are you will need a new drum unit. Please contact your local Sharp dealer for OEM replacement.
To reset maintenance codes requires going into service mode. This should only be done by an authorized trained technician as changing or adjusting something in this mode could create all sorts of problems you dont want to deal with.
What you have is a main motor lock. Check to see if you have anything blocking the movement of the drum, it could be anything from a staple, a jammed sheet of paper, or a broken drum separation pawl. If you have already removed something from the drum area do a SIMM 14-01 to clear the code.
There also could be trouble with the main motor itself. Check the motor by using SIMM 6-1 to see if the motor turns. If not, check the harness connection between the main motor and the PCU PWB. You may need to replace the main motor, the harness or the PCU PWB.
