Question about Eten Glofiish X500 GPS Pocket PC

Dead Glofiish x500

I purchased a new Glofiish X500, which worked perfectly for about 24 hours. Then I entered the numbers on a scratch card to buy airtime. The PDA locked up. I tried to reset it, with no success. Took the battery out and reinstalled it, without success. I put it on charge once again and the green light on it comes on and stays on. If I try to reset it the red lights keeps blinking, but the screen remains blank. Is there any hope for this????

I tried...when plugged into the USB port the green light is on, when you push the on button, the red light flashes...

    Kind of discouraging.

Problem is I bought it from US, and had it sent to Zambia where I am living. The nearest place that "might???" be able to fix it is 700 miles away.

The other problem is that it came with Spanish installed...no English including the PDA, the CD and the instruction leaflet. Any idea where I could find that info???

I would like to be able to get help on the internet, and not have to send it overseas either to US or China for repairs...

Anybody know where I could download the software for the Glofiish x500 in English, the CD I was sent is only in Spanish, and the preinstalled stuff on the Glofiish is all in Spanish also. Maybe someone out there wants to buy a sick Spanish Glofiish????

What is a Lil Sync® Duo Adapter? An USB cable with a connection came with the PDA, is this what you mean?

coolguy008:"You must not hold the wires to the battery for too long, 20 seconds should do it. You can overload a battery with this trick and actually make it explode if you hold it there too long. You are well within the few minutes needed to detonate the battery due to overcharging by sticking very strictly to 20 seconds."

Ignore this comment, with the 150mA that the USB port delivers, it's impossible to make the battery explode.
The battery has internal charging circuits that prevents any abnormal operation avoiding "explosions", "Overcharging" and such things.
20 seconds isn't sufficient time to recharge the battery enough to make the pone turn ON.
You can left the battery connected to the USB port for 2 or 3 hours to recharge it completely.

Try removing and replacing the battery, or try a hard reset if you can

Holding down the Power button and then, simultaneously pressing in the reset button. Once the screen changes, press and hold the End Call (red phone) button. Keep holding until the first of the two questions comes up. Release the End Call button, then answer 'Yes' to both questions. This will completely remove everything on your system and restore it to 'out of the box' condition.

Take out the battery.
-Get any usb cable you can find sitting around. (any usb wire will do, an old printer cable, anything with a usb end that can plug into your computer)
-cut one end of the plug off. You need to leave the side on that connects to your computer. Cut off the side that plugs into a device (printer, camera, web cam, etc)
-Strip the rubber off the wire and expose the wires inside.
-Separate the wires from each other. You will only be using the BLACK and RED wires.
-strip the very end of the black and red wires carefully using a wire cutter exposing the metal wire inside the red and black covering.
-Plug in your home made battery charger to your computer. Careful not to touch any exposed metal, as it will give you a small shock.

Good Luck

There are three different ways to use your Lil’ Sync® DUO Adapter in conjunction with your accessories (device, bluetooth headset, etc.) and/or your Lil’ Sync® Pro Cable.

Use only the Lil’ Sync® Pro Cable when charging your E-TEN glofiish X500 from a laptop or PC. The Lil’ Sync® Pro Cable will sync and charge your E-TEN glofiish X500 simultaneously. If your battery is completely dead, you can use the Lil’ Sync® DUO Adapter with your laptop or PC to start the charge. Once your battery has reached at least 30%, you can unplug the Lil’ Sync® DUO Adapter and use only the Lil’ Sync® Pro Cable to fully charge your E-TEN glofiish X500 from a laptop or PC.

Use your Lil’ Sync® Pro Cable along with your Lil’ Sync® DUO Adapter to charge your E-TEN glofiish X500 from any AC/DC USB power source. Your Lil’ Sync® DUO Adapter may be required to charge your E-TEN glofiish X500 when charging from AC/DC USB power.

Use your Lil’ Sync® Pro Cable along with your Lil’ Sync® DUO Adapter to charge your E-TEN glofiish X500 and a second accessory, such as a Motorola headset, simultaneously from any AC/DC USB power source.

Additionally, we have enhanced our original Lil' Sync® Pro by upgrading to USB 2.0, a more robust retracting mechanism, increasing the cable strength and power capacity, and increasing the length by 15 inches.

    Jabra Compatibility: Jabra A210 Bluetooth Adapter, BT150, BT160, BT320s, BT350, BT500, BT500v, BT620s, BT800, JX10 Headsets

IMPORTANT: The Lil Sync® Duo Adapter DOES NOT sync one E-TEN glofiish X500 while charging another, nor does it allow you to sync two devices simultaneously. The Lil Sync® Duo Adapters are for charging only.

Hi,

With the indulgence of the other posters. It would seem that you have tried most if not all of the remedies. Perhaps you can try:
1. Clean the battery terminals and the phone's battery contacts;
2. You may need to bend the little pins to put more pressure to its contacts to the battery;
3. Thereafter leave the phone off but charge continuously (preferably overnight).

Although may I also point out that if it is indeed a battery issue, then coolguy008's response would be more applicable. If I may add, his suggestion is designed to wake-up or shock charge the battery.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of any of the above procedures, you can of course try another/new battery.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FIXYA.

Your battery has been depleted past a chargable state. This is a due to a bad design in the phone that doesn't monitor the battery power state well enough. It actually allows the battery to be taken under the minimum amount needed to recharge the battery.

You can fix this, but do so at your own risk.

You can simply purchase a new battery, that will work, just been sure not to let it deplete the battery totally anymore.

    Now, on to the fix

    -Take out the battery.
    -strip
the very end of the black and red wires carefully using a wire cutter
exposing the metal wire inside the red and black covering.
-Plug in your home made battery charger to your computer. Careful not to touch any exposed metal, as it will give you a small shock.
    ****WARNING****
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW THE RED AND BLACK WIRE TO TOUCH EACH OTHER
    ****WARNING****

    -now
carefully hold the black wire to the negative terminal on the battery
(it should be noted with a black circle with a - in the middle). Then
touch the red wire to the positive terminal (it will be noted with a
red circle with a + in the middle).

Hold the 2 wires there for 20 seconds. Then quickly plug the battery back into the phone,
and then plug it into a regular charger. Give it little bit of time, if
you've done everything correctly the charge light should come on.

I had to repeat the last step again to get the light to turn on indicating it was charging.

    You
must not hold the wires to the battery for too long, 20 seconds should
do it. You can overload a battery with this trick and actually make it
explode if you hold it there too long. You are well within the few
minutes needed to detonate the battery due to overcharging by sticking
    very strictly to 20 seconds.

Just be careful and you'll be fine.

    One
you get a charge light give it a few minutes in the off position, then
try powering up the device and keep it plugged in until you get 100%
    charge.

    Good luck,

there's a small capacitor on the eten x500 mainboard, very close to the reset button. it's a pull-down capacitor that counts tao-time for entering your unit to bootloader.

I believe this capacitor is broken, and device cannot enter to windows OS and keep the bootloader mode.

you can try to download the ETEN last rom image and try to flash it, maybe it will be the solution for you. but I guess the capacitor in the mainboard could be the real reason. that's from my technician experience..

I believed someone had entered too much inccorect passwords so it totally locked. You probably try a Hard Reset to bring the unit back to default setting but you may loose some data in it. To perform hard reset just hold the power button and reset button with your stylus at the same time and push.
