Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Print problems Hi I am having trouble printing from my Gateway Desktop to my Dell 924 printer. When I hit the print button, all print controls lock up, can't continue or cancel printing. I have to end task to get out.I checked the printer port, a USB, all is fine there. I have tried un installing printer, drivers, and all software, then re installing, nothing helps. I have even downloaded newest driver from Dell website, still locks printer up. But I can connect printer to my laptop, with the same drivers installed, printer works fine. I have swapped the mouse or the keyboard to the USB port that the printer was on, and they work OK. What else could I check? Thanks Joe

I have used this printer on desktop for the last 6 months, then about 3 weeks ago it started this. Did a system restore back to January 15, thinking maybe a setting had been changed somewhere, no luck on that either

What are your operating systems on the two pc's? Vista can not use the standard drivers for X86 devices.

Assuming that you have checked the print carts and went to the pc printer properties and tried a test page and went to the printer controls and printed out a test page. If it still does not function you could test it on another pc or send the printer in for repair. If the printer will not print out a test page from it's own controls... its broken.

    Good Luck

What's your problem?Compatible printers

I think you might have installed the printer twice. If that's the case you will need to delete one because if two of the same printers are installed it confuses the computer and confuses you. Only one printer can be active and if there are two you might have printed to the one that is not active so all the print jobs when into the print queue.

Click Start/Control Panel or Start/Settings/Control Panel. Look for Printers and open it. If you see more than one of the same printer then that's your problem. Right Click on the extra printer and select Delete.

Look down at the bottom right near the time and see if you see a printer icon, if so click on it to open it. All the print jobs you tried to print will be backed up in the queue so you want to cancel or all of them.

Does not print

Click Start/Control Panel and look the Printer within the control panel. Open it and make sure you don't have the same printer installed more than once on your system. If you do then you can get the system confused and the queue backed up if you print to one that is not ready. If you have more than one then delete it.

Also open the printer properties and make sure you are using the right connection such as USB, LPT1, Wireless, TCPIP (Network).

When you open a document and get ready to print, rather than hit the print icon, click File, then select Print. When the print window opens you can click the drop down arrow on the Name to see if the same printer is installed more than once. You can also get to the printer properties this way.

If you have a printer icon at the bottom right near the time on your screen open it and delete all the documents that are backed up waiting to print.

Dell Computer printing issue

If the documents are actually printing, the problem is most likely with the printer(s). Poor print quality is almost always a result of problems with the printers or their printing supplies (toner, ink cartridges, paper, defects or debris on rollers creating streaking, etc.).
