My son has had his Acer Aspire One since Christmas of 2008. Last week, my son plugged in the computer to charge the battery and no screen would come up, it stayed black. He and I looked in the handbook that came with his computer. We tried all three of the suggestions but with no luck. The screen remains black although the green power light is on. I've had no luck reaching Acer customer service. Can someone please help? I hate to think I need to get my son a new computer already!!

Let us know what you tried to fix it. Her is what I will do:

1/ try to start without battery only with power plugged on (sometimes it doesn't work without battery connection on)
2/ Measure with a voltmeter the power out from the battery
3/ Replace battery (cheap one on ebay)

If after that nothing happen the the motherboard is probably screwed...Sorry.
You can still sale it for parts..

Good luck and don't forget to rate.
cheers

Do you still have the old battery. If so charge it, and see if it charges properly. If so then you have a bad battery.

If your power adapter is still putting out the correct voltage when it is plugged into the wall, then you can safely assume that the adapter connection on the motherboard has come loose.
It can be replaced, but it is sort of tricky. You are probably looking at buying a new motherboard.

Son ran battery to zero after he broke power cord, now won't boot

Couple of things

First is to let it charge with the lid down for a few hours.
If that does not fix it then check that your son did not use the alternate display option FN F5 or FN F6 on the acers I think

If you still have no luck you might want to ask questions of your son before you take it to a repair shop

I have an Acer Aspire one model zg5- Power cord

Here is another thing you can try. Unplug the power cord, and then remove the battery. Press the "Start" button and hold for 5 seconds. Replace the battery back into the computer and plug in the power cord. Start the machine and see if the low battery message still comes up. Sometimes the program that monitors the battery status gets confused. Doing the above should straighten it out. The Acer should start up and the AC power light should be lit. Look down in your task bar for the battery Icon or go to Battery Status in Control Panel and see if it shows that the battery is charging. Even newer batteries can go bad (rare) but if this is the case and a cell has shorted out in the battery, then your only recourse is exchange under warranty.

Battery won't charge?

Hello,

A blinking battery light usually means the battery will not take a charge from the system. When this happens the most likely cause is a shorted cell in the battery. Since it is under Acer warranty contact tech support and they will send you a replacement battery. Batteries normally last 2-3 years but you could have a factory defect in yours that just showed up after a little bit of use.
