How do I transfer video (tape) from my Sony Handycam to Macbook? DCR- HC96 handycam and Macbook without Firewire. I do have a Firewire to USB cable but iMovie doesn't seem to acknowledge the connection. Do I need other software?

It ca be done using a firewire cable (sony calls it an iLink cable) or by placing your camcorder on the handycam station and then connecting the station to your computer via USB cable. Here is a link to the USB cable that would be used to connect your handycam station to your computer:

Does your Macbook have a firewire port. Many do not. Connect with a firewire cable.

you will also need a firewire port on your laptop.
if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire pci card.

How to connect a macbook pro and a handycam DCR-DVD105.
If your cam has a firewire connection, you could plug it into the macbook and use iMovie to transfer the videos over. You can also get an external DVD drive to put those tiny DVDs into to transfer it over.
