Outlook 2007 with ypops does not send mail

I am new to outlook, and i wanted to use it for my yahoo mail (free) account... i browsed the net and found that a combination of outlook and ypops can do it.

i configured ypops and according to the instructions set the incoming port to 1101 and outgoing (smtp) port to 251.

i am able to receive mail, but not able to send any.

i get a reply from the administrator with the following test:

That is an SMTP server error. Now, I'm not a ypops expert per se, but I do know this much: That kind of error should indicate something on the server-side of things, not what you have done in your configuration of the program.

Furthermore, a little bit of research on ypops indicates that Yahoo! has installed a new mail server that is returning this error, and that they [ypops] are in the process of trying to correct the problem. To me, it looks like Yahoo! has done something intentionally to stop free access to a POP3 email account, when they reap revenue from charging for such an account.

So, the solution is, there is no solution at this time. Unfortunately, it looks as though you may have to check back at ypops for an update.

Ypops no longer works with outlook. There's a ypops board but I've been checking it so long I think people have given it up. Sorry I'm sure this is not the answer you were looking for.

I had problems sending....got the yahoo error message. I send the mail through my Incredimail (I suppose it would work in Outlook as well ) Highlight your forward or reply by using select all under edit and paste it into a new mail in Incredimail. Easy step and it will send.

Now, my problem is with receiving. It worked at first but now it isn't and I didn't change any settings.

Posted on Feb 16, 2009

It seems that yahoo mail now provides pop3 access negating the need for YPOPS!

Posted on Sep 03, 2008

Make sure your Yahoo account is on Classic Mail (if not, there's an option to change to Classic after you login to Yahoo mail.

Posted on Aug 07, 2008

What worked for me was to go to yahoo mail online and send a test message manually, then outlook 2007 worked perfectly

Have Outlook and want to also have Yahoo do I have to pay for yahoo

Outlook is a program that manages e-mail addresses. These are two separate entities and are not the same thing. Yahoo is a free web-mail service. You do not have to pay for a yahoo email address, and you can import that address into outlook.
For example you would be able to manage several email addresses in your outlook, say you had one from gmail, and two from yahoo. You would be able to import all 3 into your outlook program.
Hope this helps!

How do i link my free yahoo email account to MS Outlook 7?

Hello,
To setup your Yahoo in MS Outlook 2007, please follow the procedures written below:
1. First of all, you must enable POP3 in your yahoo mail account. If your current yahoo setting for the preferred content is “Yahoo US”, it requires “yahoo mail plus”. But if you change the setting as “Yahoo Asia”, then you can enable POP3 access in your yahoo mail account. To do that:
- Sign in to your yahoo mail account. (I assumed that you switched the yahoo mail options to “All-New mail” view from “Mail Classic” view.)
- Click on your “Display Name” and select “Account Info”

- Continue signing in yahoo account info verifying your password.
- In your yahoo account info page find the “Account Settings” section.
In the “Account Settings” section, check the current settings for “Set Language, site, time zone” content. If it is “Yahoo! U.S.”, then click “Set Language, site, time zone” link.

- In the “Edit Member Information” page, click on the New Setting option and change your current preferred content settings to Yahoo! Asia and click “Finished” button.

- Click “I Accept” button on the “Terms of Service” screen to proceed further.
- The preferred content will be “Yahoo! Asia”. Click the “Finished” button to save the settings.
- In your yahoo mail box page, click on Options and select More Options…

Is it possible to connect MS Outlook to yahoo.com?

yahoo's UK page has instructions on this and here they are: id rather paste theirs than type my own...

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Click the "Add" button.
  4. From the Add menu, click "Mail."
  5. In the text box labelled Display Name, type your name and click "Next."
  6. In the Email Address box, type your Yahoo! Mail address (be sure to include "@yahoo.com") and click "Next."
  7. Under "My incoming mail server is a…" select "POP3."
  8. Type "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk" in the Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server box.
  9. Type "smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk" in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
  10. Click "Next."
  11. In the Account Name box, type your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
  12. In the Password box, type your Yahoo! Mail password.
  13. If you want Outlook Express to remember your password, check the "Remember password" box.
  14. Do not check the boxes labelled "Log on using Secure…"
  15. Click "Next."
  16. Click "Finish."
Important: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication. To turn this setting on:
  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Double-click the account labelled "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk."
  4. Select the "Servers" tab.
  5. Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."
  6. Click "OK."
To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail server:
  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Double-click the account labelled "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk."
  4. Select the "Advanced" tab.
  5. If you'd like to keep a copy of your email messages on the Yahoo! Mail server, check the box next to "Leave a copy of messages on the server." If you want to delete your messages from the Yahoo! Mail server after viewing them in Outlook Express, don't check the box.
If you're unable to send email, try using port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. Here's how to make this change:
  1. From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts."
  2. Select your Yahoo! POP account and click the "Properties" button.
  3. Click the "Advanced" tab.
  4. Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP"), change port 25 to 587.
  5. Click "Apply." Then click "OK" and "Close."
