Question about Samsung LE32R74BDX 32 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

Picture Flashing My Samsung LE32R7 TV has a problem that's really annoying. When I'm watching Sky TV sometimes the picture 'flashes' whenever a bright red or blue image is shown in the broadcast. Is this a common fault? How can it be cured? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Same here - seems it started at the adverts or titles of a programme or when there was a "transition" in the show like when a graphic came on screen to introduce round 2 of a game show.

Now it just does it whenever and is really really annoying - so tempted to chuck it through the damn window !

I heard about the compatability issue with this model and a certain model of sky + box (amstrad???!!!)

Is there a fix or is it one of those - sky say its samsungs fault and samsung say its skys fault? (sky/amstrad)

May just put a claim in before the warrantys up !

It's JUST done it now with the "e-on" advert - was a fully red screen at the time !!! why would a particular colour cause that rescan effect?

    Help - anyone...

    Cheers - Doc Norton

Hey there,

Just to let you know my issue is now resolved but it's not a nice easy solution unfortunately.

I had to return my TV to Samsung for 2 weeks - Appollo2000 very kindly substituted our 32" TV with a 14 crappy LCD (didn't want to know when I suggested we should get a 32")

No easy fix by the looks of it...

I had this problem too, fortunately I have a sky engineer friend who told me it is a known compatibility issue, all you need to force the latest firmware upgrade down to your sky box and hey presto, it will fix it. It depends on the type of box you have as to how to force the firmware download, but just google it and you'll find the combination of keys to press that will put the sky box into receiving a new firmware upgrade from sky.

Hope it helps you, it did me cos it was driving me crazy

I have a similar problem but my picture flashes black and white and the sound goes at the same. Also sometimes it will flash pink and blue. I've read elsewhere that the issue is a known problem with compatability between Samsung tv's and sky boxes. Apparently the box needs to be replaced but I'm unsure what type of box. I've read perhaps a PACE sky box could fix the problem. I think the best option would be to contact Samsung - that's what I'm going to do.

Noticable flickering when viewing dark images.

Hello, I too experience this exact same problem. In my opinion, any television under 2 grand is probably going to have some slight imperfection as this; I have tried a few different ones myself. To some, it would appear to only be a minor annoyance, but to those who truly can distinguish a good quality picture between a bad one, or to those people, such as myself, who would find something like this to be unacceptable, this is a disheartening situation.
My friend, I have tried many different settings to see which ones might resolve this issue with the blacks in the picture, or at least reduce it to a barely noticeable level and I have found that when I select the CUSTOM picture mode, reduce the contrast to about 60, turn up the brightness to 62, turn OFF blur reduction,x/v/ color on, CATS on, MPEG NR ON, turn Dark level to LIGHT(this is important) add a little bit of extra color for ex. 52, and sharpness to 75, that this produces a pleasing to the eye performance when watching blu ray movies and dvd's. The flickering is reduced to almost nothing, and the picture quality actually appears sharper and more ethereal in certain ways.
The downside to this is that you are lacking some true depth in the picture's darks, but after your eyes adjust and you are watching a good quality movie, you will notice that there still sort of is enough darks there to compensate. Further fine tuning may produce even better results, jsut have to keep playing around with it. But I am now convinced after hearing somebody come forward with the same exact problem i'm having on the same tv, that it is not a defect but just an imperfection that you sometimes have to deal with when you don't spend like 5 grand on a tv. Good luck and happy viewing!

Sky not working properly on my samsung lcd tv

This is likely to be caused by the changing of the screen mode between ads and or programs, by your TV.

If so, changing the Sky output to 16:9 will fix it.

Press [Services]

Select option 4 - System Setup

Select option 1 - Picture Settings

Change "Location 1" TV setting to 16:9 (This will make the Sky box handle any changes and give you a permanent widescreen output to your TV. This is the recommended setting for widescreen TVs, but sadly, few Sky installers bother to do it.

You can also change "Location 2" if you have a second widescreen TV connected in another room.

Whilst in this menu change the Video Output to RGB from PAL (If not set already) RGB gives a much more stable picture (particularly on the menu system)

Go to Save new settings and press [Select]

Exit the menu system, and you problem should be solved.
