Question about Acer Aspire 3690-2196 Notebook

1 Answer

Screen freezes Dear experts, Every time I boot my cpu, everything looks normal until after the Windows XP loading screen. As soon as it's done loading, it presents the Aspire (light blue, designed screen) and never does anything after. It stays on that screen basically forever. I am able to move the mouse, adjust screen contrast/brightness, enable standby mode....but nothing else. What can I do?? Thanks!

Hi,

If you can manage to access the safe mode troubleshooting please do it. By pressing F8 afre the POST and before windows loads. Select Safe mode and let 'em continue load the safe mode desktop. However if the safe mode won't work. You need to reinstall the system. You can use your compliment Recovery CD in doing so. Hope this will give you hints.

Best regards,

Could be the pixal setting on the tower is too high for the TV? Can you change the video card settings to the TV Pixal rating? You could have a bad video card. Good luck.

My windows loading takes so much time

Slow Windows Machine! Sounds like not enough resources such as RAM and CPU. Check Performance in Task-Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE). High CPU levels causes hang ups like freezing. Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate. Consider increasing RAM. Uninstall any extras like those pushy toolbars, and add-ons.

My screen goes off when windows xp starts the boot process

Does the display come back at all?

Is it the same on an external monitor?

As soon as BIOS screen disappears press F8 multiple times until a text menu appears allowing you to to select SAFE MODE. Select SAFE MODE.

DO you get a display now?

Can you select 1024x768 resolution and get a display, if so, rebot and try a normal boot.

Have you tried booting from the original system CD? Another option would be to download and burn an ISO image of Linux Ubuntu Workstation 9.10 Live CD. Try to Boot from this CD. If it boots successfully, it should give you the ability to access your hard drive to retrieve your data. It might also indicate if your system is having a hardware issue. We have installed and run Ubuntu Linux and plenty of these machines with good success... great way to troubleshoot hardware functionality and allow access to data without loosing it.

If a system restore does not take care of this issue, then i recommend backing up all data then reinstalling the operating system. If you need further assistance, you can contact us 24/7 at 800-595-3564. Thank you.

Screen fades to white, everything freezes, then returns to normal

My first thought is a video inverter.

Install an external monitor and see if the problem persists.

If it doesn't then it is the LCD on the laptop.

Good luck
