Hidden files are not showing

Hi there.
It sounds like you have a virus on your machine, apart from not being able to view hidden files and folders is there anything else thats going wrong with the PC at all?
for example on start-up do you get any strange error messages or has the recycle bin name been changed?

I couldn't view the hidden files when i apply show hidden files in my folder options in tools menu in menu bar.

Folder Options is removed from Tools in Windows by a virus. The virus is called W32.Rontokbro@mm OR W32/Rontokbro.gen@MM

The removal of this virus is slightly difficult. Antivirus can't remove it automatically. However detailed procedure to remove it is available at

http://coolexp.blogspot.com/2008/01/fold...

About this Virus/Worm:
What it does is creating new files which looked like a folder but its actually a .exe file. Unless you’ve enabled the view extensions in the folder options or else you won’t see the .exe extension of the file. The file is approximately 43.7Kb and normally people will click to open it because it looked like a folder. So after you’ve open it, the virus will run each time during startup and keep on spreading and spreading… into the harddrives.

More troubles coming up. Normally when you click “Tools” in explorer, there’s a “folder options” underneath it. Once the pc is infected with the virus, the Folder Options will be missing, which disabled you to change the options to view the extension of the files. So when you see a new folder appeared from nowhere and you clicked to open it out of curiousity, the virus spread more again. Moreover, the virus disabled the registry edit where you will see this message “Registry edit is disabled by the administrator” everytime you try to edit the registry.

So how to clean the virus then? I found some solution from the following link and have successfully cleaned it from my system.

http://coolexp.blogspot.com/2008/01/fold...

It will help you to get rid of this virus named W32.Rontokbro@mm aka brontok.a and to get back your hidden files. Source(s): http://coolexp.blogspot.com/2008/01/fold...

Windows folder cannot be hidden

Hi its a virus.

Heres the fix for it.

Go to registry editor by running regedit in the run box.
Go to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

In the right hand area, double click hidden and change the value to 1.

Now you’re all set to go. Check it in your tools menu if the changes have taken effect.

Hi Mykk

If you are using Microsoft windows then follow the following steps to hide any files and folder:

1. Right click the file or folder that you want to hide
2. Go to Properties
3. Now in the Attribute Section (Below the size of files or folder)
4. Now You'll be able to see two check box option i.e. "Read-only" & "Hidden".
5. Now check mark the Hidden Option in Attribute Section.
6. Click Apply Button.
7. Confirm the option to apply settings to Subfolder & files(This confirmattion is asked only if you are hiding any folder).
8. Click OK.

9Now you'll be seeing that the folder or file's color has been changed that means you have hidden file or folder Successfully.

10. Now Go to "Tools" in menu bar
11. Click "Folder options"
12. Go to "View" Tab
13. Now in Hidden files and folder optin below Select the redio box i.e. "Do not show hidden files and folders"

To Unhide your files or folder follow the steps from 10-15, by just making changes in step 13.
You just have to select the radio box i.e. "Show hidden files and folders.

Hurri virus

Hey there

Once you are infected of viruses then you wont be able to remove them compltely by doing some utilities.
You need to install some good Antivirus Program.

First of all check for what kind of viruses are affecting ur system by:

Because your virus leads to your system very slow as well as restarts itself without awaring you. It is caused by Worm and Trojon viruses. For making sure that ur system is suffering from virus go to tools in menu bar and check for folder. if the folder option appears to you then it is okay. again try to go to Task manager by right clicking on the tasl bar. If the task manager is also showing then you are not affected of viruses.

Try out QuickHeal Antivirus by downloading it from the following link:
http://www.quickheal.com

Download its trial version and then get it updated by connecting ur pc to the internet.
This antivirus program can remove all the viruses that are currently present in ur system.

gimme your acknowlege by rating me

thanx

may be you are only using the USER account so folder options are not available... there are full administrative right to use folder option so have a check with this...

in case you are administrator then also it s not available means this may be due to virus attack some system files have became unstable .... so try reinstalling operating system ...
and in further dont forget to use updated antivirus......

My hidden files are not visible.i have tried through tool ,folder option, but no result.plzz help me..thanks?

Hi, to see your hidden files in winXPsp2, go to regedit, find:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL    and there value "CheckedValue = 0"   If there is "0", change it to "1"
This kind of problem normally comes after your PC was infected by trojans, mal.,addw., etc. Even after removing (I'm using Spyware Doctor, one of the best & NOD32 antivirus) of infection some times this reg value still staying in the incorrect "0" so just change it.
