I recently purchased the D80 and had no problems, it worked great and took magnificant shots. However, the other day I turned it on and the viewfinder was now, dark and out of focus. The battery was fully charged and the diopter adjustment failed to fix the problem. I also noted that there was a square in the upper right viewfider that was clear and in focus, just like the entire viewfinder used to be. Of note, it still takes clear, sharp, in-focus shots, it's just that the view in the viewfinder is all jacked up! Do you have any idea what might of caused it?

Check the mirror. The image you see in the viewfinder comes through the lens, and is reflected by the mirror. If it's dirty, it will affect the image you see. When you take the picture, the mirror lifts up, the viewfinder image is interrupted, and the light from the lens goes to the image sensor. So...if the mirror is dirty, the picture will be fine but the viewfinder image will be dark or out of focus.

Had same problems. The shutter is faulty although my D80 only registered about 2,000 shots.

Get it fixed at Nikon Service Center. It's your only option. Cost me $120.

As far as I can read in the manual there is not any error code r05 and r06. My guess is you are seeing that in the LCD on top of the camera. Turn to page 36 in the D80 manual there you is what you are after. The r05 and r06 are the number of shots remaining in the buffer.

D80 won't take pictures sometimes unless I turn it off and on

It may be that you are shooting in a light level that is too low (indicator light) try upping the ISO and are you using the built-in flash or a separate flash?

Nikon d80 won't turn on

Pcog3 & Guests,
Check to make sure (before you turn aon the camera) that the SD card is seated and lens is completely in the right position, if it's not the camera will malfunction and stay or turn off. The last guest that doesn't have info on the LCD can turn the menu items back on in the settings preferences.

Finepix 2400 Dark landscape shots

I was just out yesterday taking pictures in very hazy conditions, and some of my shots were facing south at about noon. I was actually expecting the sky to be overexposed, so I took two pictures of everything, one on auto, and one on manual with the exposure set to -0.6. Well, it turned out that even the ones on Auto were dark, so the ones on the manual settings were even worse! As it turns out, I had the same problem you had, and should have boosted the exposure. Reading the manual, it does say that you should use positive compensation for very bright scenes or pictures of mostly sky. Try it next time and see how that works. I'm new to this too, but I'll get the hang of it sooner or later... ;)
