Video card While downloading a game, it affected my video card somehow. On my "Display Properties" under "Setting" it used to reflect in the "Color Palatte" "true color" now it only shows "16 colors". It does not give any other options. I've tried looking at the other options on that window but same results. Help. -ren

Hello Ren. My guess is that your video card driver is messed up. Right click on My Computer (or Computer, if you have vista) and select "manage". Go to device manager and see if you anything listed with a question mark inside of a yellow triangle. If so, you're video card is not being recognized. Download the latest driver from your video card manufacturer's website and hopefully it will fix the problem. Lemme know if you have more problems.

How do I get missing Icons back on my PC screen

The higher the resolution, the more likely you will be able to see your icons.
From Microsoft.com:
1. Open Display in Control Panel. 2. On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and then click Apply. 3. When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment. 4. Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting. Note
• To open Display, click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. • A higher screen resolution reduces the size of items on your screen and increases the relative space on your desktop • You can switch your screen resolution temporarily to 640 X 480 if you have games or other programs that are set to run at that resolution. To switch, right-click the game or program (on the desktop or on the Start menu), and then click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab, and then select the Run in 640x480 screen resolution check box. Your display reverts to its default resolution when you close the program. • Your monitor and video adapter determine how much you can change your screen resolution. You may not be able to increase the resolution above a certain level. • Changes to screen resolution affect all users that log on to the computer. • Only the recommended screen resolutions are listed. For additional settings, click the Advanced button on the Settings tab, click the Adapter tab, and then click List all Modes. Select the resolution, color level, and refresh rate you want.

How to troubleshoot video issues?

Instruction:
To troubleshoot video issues, follow these steps and test your video after performing each one:
  1. Check the video signal cable connector for bent or missing pins. Check the cable for cuts.

  2. Check to see if moving the monitor connections slightly causes color changes. Tighten loose connections.

  3. In the case of systems with multiple video output connections, verify that the correct connection is being used.
    • Some systems ship with two video connectors on the back, however only one is enabled.
matrix12.jpgExample of a desktop computer equipped with 2 video output connectors.
  1. Standard on board video connection
  2. Optional video adapter connection (some models)
  1. If the monitor has multiple inputs, remove the secondary connections from the computer.

  2. Remove all signal cable extensions and Keyboard, Video, and Mouse (KVM) switch boxes.
    • Use of these devices can result in severely degraded video quality or no video symptoms.

  3. Eliminate wire bundles and magnetic fields from nearby appliances, such as those from speakers, as possible influences on color quality.

  4. If applicable, remove and reseat the video adapter card.

  5. Check to see if the display is visible and check for proper color during startup.

  6. Verify that the video is working by booting to the operating system in Safe Mode.
    • To enter Safe mode press F8 when the Windows logo first appears on the screen during system startup.

  7. Ensure that the most recent video driver has been installed.
    1. Right click on the Windows desktop.
    2. Click Properties.
    3. Click the Settings tab.
    4. Click the Advanced button.
    5. Click the Adapter tab.
    6. Click the Properties button.
    7. Click the Driver tab.
    8. Compare the Driver Version: with the current version and update if needed.
  8. Run the monitor setup program.
    • Some monitors are supplied with setup programs on CD-ROM or diskette. Follow the manufacturers directions.
    • Readability can be improved on some systems by running the Microsoft ClearType tuner.
  9. Check video quality by changing the hardware video adapter to the lowest available resolution.
    1. Right click on the Windows desktop.
    2. Click Properties.
    3. Click the Settings tab.
    4. Use the Screen resolution sliding selector to change resolution.
The resolution selections available should be limited to the capabilities of the video adapter.
    • Some of the selections available may exceed the monitor capabilities and result in a temporary black screen.
    1. Click OK.
    2. Compare results with other screen resolution selections.

  10. Ensure that the display being used can support the video refresh rate and screen resolution specified in display properties.
    • The manual for your monitor should list the supported refresh rates and screen resolutions.
    • Open the Display Properties dialog box to verify that the refresh rate and screen resolutions are set properly:

      1. In the Properties window, click Settings.
      2. Click Advanced.
      3. Select the Monitor tab to view or change the refresh rate for the monitor.
Notes:
  • Some system boards ship with the AGP slot disabled and plugged. These slots have been disabled at the chipset level and do not work. The plugs should not be removed.
  • Some AGP adapters use a retaining clip, which must be moved to one side to prevent damage when removing the adapter.
  • Setting the video resolution to 640x480x16 colors in Device Manager is not the same as changing the hardware to a VGA adapter. You must change the adapter selection from the installed adapter, i.e. ATI, nVidia, or Matrox, to a standard VGA adapter in the Display Properties dialog box.
  • Some Intel chipsets uses Dynamic Video Memory technology (DVMT) for video memory. The initial memory count can indicate less than expected system memory count.
  • Signal cable extensions and keyboard, video, mouse (KVM) switches are not supported.

Green display on boot up Please help

Check to see that there are no machine BIOS settings that could affect the monitor. Normally, the bios controls display until the OS takes over. If your XP screen after bootup looks fine, I don't see how you have a problem with your monitor setup under Windows.

Unable to change color depth...

Ok I think i found your problem. You don't need to install any drivers.

Switch your display to 256 colors To switch your display to 256 colors
Some games and other software programs require that your monitor be set to 256 colors, or they run better in 256 colors. Many of those programs will switch your monitor to 256 colors automatically when you start the program. For those that don't, follow the steps below if you want to switch the display temporarily while the game or program is running.
  1. On your desktop or on the Start menu, right-click the game or other program that you want to run in 256 colors, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Compatibility tab.
  3. Select the Run in 256 colors check box.
  • The screen will revert to your default color quality when you close the program.
  • Try switching to 256 colors if your software program shows the wrong color or the graphics redraw slowly.
  • If your software program appears in a small window in the center of your screen, you can increase its size by changing your screen resolution temporarily. Follow the procedure above, but in step 3 select the Run in 640x480 screen resolution check box. Your screen resolution will revert to its previous resolution when you close the program.
  • The Compatibility tab is available only for programs or games located on your computer's hard disk. It is not available if the program is stored on a floppy disk, compact disk, or a network.
Please rate this if it fix your issue

No color I can't change rider or horse

The bulletted list contains the system requirements from Valusoft on this game:
  • Operating System: Windows® 98/Me/XP
If you are running win XP, then you probably meet the OS, Processor, and RAM specs.
  • DirectX®: 9.0
To find your version of direct x, click run and type dxdiag in the command box. The Direct X version is on the main page of the Direct X diagnostics page.
  • Processor: Pentium® III 700 MHz or 100% compatible (Recommended: Pentium III 1 GHz or higher.)
  • RAM: 128 MB (256 MB Recommended)
  • Hard Drive Space: 500 MB Free
  • Drives: 8x CD-ROM
If you are running Win 98 or Me, right click my computer and click on properties. The general tab of the system properties will tell you the CPU, Operating system, and RAM. (Almost all CD-ROM drives fit this minimum spec.)
  • Video Cards: 32 MB DirectX compliant video card (Recommended: 64 MB DirectX compliant video card), DriectX compliant sound card.
To find your video adapter, go to:
Start/control panel/system and on the hardware tab click device manager. Then click the + sign next to display adapter. Please report back what under display adapter.
(if it says Intel, Sis, or VIA, you have onboard graphics and the game will not work) You will need an upgraded video adapter to play the game.

Need help with ultimate Mahjongg. wont run?

Technical Questions Q. Ultimate Mahjong refuses the run at all

A. Make sure you have DirectX 9 installed, this is a games library created by Microsoft, and can be downloaded freely from here. If it still does not work then you can contact our technical support at support@inertiasoftware.com.

dotted_sep_1px.gif

Q. Ultimate Mahjong runs slowly on my computer how can I make it faster?

A. Ultimate Mahjong probably runs slowly because of your graphics card, make sure you have the latest drivers for it installed and that you have DirectX 9. Trying changing between 2D and 3D modes, and see which runs the fastest. Finally, many people find that Ultimate Mahjong runs faster in a 16 bit color mode, so try changing your display settings.

dotted_sep_1px.gif

Q. Ultimate Mahjong will not run and keeps telling me I have an incompatible display, what should I do?

A. You should try changing your display settings, some video cards cannot run Ultimate Mahjong in certain color modes. Try setting your display properties to a 16 bit color mode, this usually solves the problem.
