Could be the transmission going out or something as simply as a broken damper strap. with the washer turned OFF open the lid and check for extreme side to side or front to back movement of the outer tub. if there is then you need to order replacement dampener straps or mounting straps. its late here and I don't remember exactly what they are called LOL

There may be a coin or key loose in the tub. If front loading, it will have gone down the water slots and be non retreiveable.

Clinking sound in a Siemens WFXD5200UC/01 front loading washer

I would suggest that a small thin metal item has got into the outer drum unit. This is the space between the internal spinning drum and the outer casing. This can sometimes happen by the object passing between the rubber door seal and the drum. Not easy to get out, however if it is small enough it may eventually find its way into the pump filter trap. There is a small round cover plate at the bottom right hand side of the machine. Behind the cover is the filter trap, open it up (when machine empty) and check for the object every so often. To open the filter turn the plug cover about a third anticlockwise and it should release. Pull gentle on the plug to remove from the machine.

Whirlpool duet is about one and half years old and starts making a loud metal to metal noise while trying to start after the water had run in. Clank, Clank, Clank Loyd

Hi Loyd.

If the metal noise is like rattling, as first thing check the object trap located behind the trim at the base of the washer. Check also through the basket holes and inside the tub if there is any foreign object stuck that may be causing the noise.

From the description the noise looks more like that of a broken spin basket support, which is a common fault on Duet. This fault will result on a rithmical loud clank that occurrs more or less when the basket is passing through the same position. The basket supports are located at the back side of the basket. To reach the part an almost complete disassembly of the appliance is required. The spin basket and its support is covered by long term warranty (ten years or lifetime).

Call Whirpool at the number listed on the manual, tell them the symptoms and eventually mention that a technician suggested the problem being the basket support, and check conditions for repair. The repair will be probably covered by manufacturer.

Regards.

Ginko.
