Step three says connect to computer. I plug the green speaker prong into the green port on my sound card. I get windows sounds, but no sounds from CD or videos online. Any ideas?

Many applications (like web page videos, media players) have their own volume controls, separate from the main windows control. Since you can hear other sounds, I would guess that the volume is lowered/muted on these applications. To check this, look for a slider bar or speaker icon on the web page, or the media player. Adjust slider up, and also check for a a mute button (often a red circle over the volume control). Adjust and re-test, and you should be good to go.

Hi, my laptop sound has gone dead in a sudden. When I open the volume mixer, I can still see the green bars jumping up and down on digital output device (SPDIF) but nothing at all for windows media player...

Hello patrick886,
If your volume mixer is still showing the noise bars moving, that's great. It means the computer knows sound is coming from somewhere, the fact that you can't hear it, indicates there's a problem with where to send that sound (aka your speakers). Now with the no sound coming out, I'm guessing you are talking about the internal speakers and not external ones.
Have you recently installed any kind of music editing software? Mp3 player such as Winamp, iTunes or other music related programs? I'd start by checking the device manager to see if the speakers are at least being detected.
I've put together a nice little picture for you. Hope it helps!!

I've got crative inspire t7900 not workin

You can hear music and sound when you test your audio and also the Windows startup and shutdown even sounds. But you can't hear any music when you play it in Windows Media Player or the videos on youtube because Windows Media Player needs some codecs installed and you don't have those installed.

You can download and install this Media Player codec pack from Microsoft.

Hope that helps,
Regards,
Raspal

2 speakers no sound

1. Check that your computer has not "muted" the sound.
2. Check that the audio-cable from the speakers is connected to the "line-out" (green) connector on your computer.
3. Check that the speakers are getting power.
4. Try connecting the speakers to the audio output from an iPod.
They may be "quiet", but, at 100%, you should hear something.
5. Start -> Control Panel -> Classic View -> System -> Hardware
to see that the correct software "drivers" for your sound-card are installed.
6. Check that your music-player (Windows Media Player, iTunes, WinAmp, et cetera) is not "muted" or at less than 5% volume.

No sound.

Green is for audio. Make sure you have the proper audio drivers. Check the device manager ofr yellow exclamation points. If so you should do a "Windows Update" if it doesn't have updated drivers for your machine try using google to find Packard Bell's support web page.
