Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
We have two Brother IntelliFax 4100 machines. They are used as standalone fax machines. We are not using the printer or copier features at all. 6 Months ago, one fax machine started faxing solid black pages. Reports print fine and there are no error messages, but the the receiver gets a full page of solid black. I assumed it was just some bad error, but the second machine started doing the same exact thing. Again, it prints fine and doesn't report any errors. The scan window is clean. Does anyone have any ideas? I found someone reporting a similar problem with a different model IntelliFax in Amazon.com reviews. I have a Brother's Intellifax 2800 that sends black pages.
It sounds like the CIS (scanner) has failed in both machines. Its no generally not a common problem. I would change one every six months if I was lucky.
It may point to something in your environment. I have have seen rust build up on the contacts of the scanner cause this problem. So if you have high moisture or are close to the ocean this maybe a problem.
