Grundix Yacht Boy 400

I have the above. It turns on and off without any problems. You can tune to different stations. However, no sound is heard. Can this be repaired?

Thanks,

same issue, no sound. Small click from speaker / headphones when turned on. NO sound from either Am or FM across the dial. It worked perfectly yesterday all day, turned it off. Put it in the truck (gently) and today ....nothing. I opened it up and saw a discolored cap, tested it and it was within specs. no signs of leaking. Any ideas?

I have a grundig yacht bot 205, serial number 001143. I was wondering what year and where it was manufactured?

The Grundig Yacht Boy 205 was early 90s and could have been made anywhere. The Grundig Yacht Boy 205a was early to mid 60s and made in Germany.

Probably more than $40 and that is the buy it now price on eBay at this link:

Note that the opening price is only $25. Suggest you get a "new" used radio as a cost effective option. Alternative: buy (now relatively inexpensive) NiMH rechargeable batteries and run your P2000 on them.

My ICF-SW7600 has a clipping sound when first

It's hard to describe a sound in words, so I'm not sure I know what your "clipping sound" sounds like. You may be describing what's called "motorboating", which is a loud rapid putt-putting that drowns out the desired sound until it fades away. This is usually due to power supply problems, most often caused by bad filter capacitors. If I remember this model correctly, it doesn't have a built-in supply so you need to run it with an external adapter. That may be the source of your trouble. Try a different adapter or use battery power to see if the problem goes away.

If this problem only shows up when you're tuned to the station on 93.9, your radio may be picking up some kind of interference. It's also possible (but very unlikely) that the radio itself is producing a "birdie", which is a false signal on some frequency. If this is the case, it's a very obscure problem that may be very hard to find.

Sorry I can't be more precise, but maybe this will get you started. Thanks for using Fixya!

My 4 year old YB P 2000 suddenly quit broadcasting AM. I took the radio apart and cleaned everything. Now only some FM stations and no SW reception. Can you help?

Look at the front case and locate reset hole. Insert cocktale stick or similar and listen for slight click. Insert new batteries, ensuring correct polarity and that there has been no leakage from old batteries on terminals. If leakage ie green/ uneven appearance, try to scrape clean with suitable implement when disconnected from mains only.
