Copying mini dvd to hard drive and then making copies

I just can't seem to figure out how to copy the files from the mini dvd to the hard drive and then make copies on new dvd's. That was the purpose of buying this camera and I just can't seem to do it. It must be something simple that I am not doing. Can you help??

I have loaded the software that came with the camera for Panasonic DVD Fun Studio. I also have two other editing packages. I can play the video from the camera on my computer ( HP Media Center) and from the built-in DVD burner and player. I have copied the files from the camera to a file in My Documents and the "C-Drive" but I cannot drag them into any of the editing programs. I checked the file properties and they are "Read Only". What am I doing wrong? Help!!! One other thing. The FSB cable that came with camera does not have that "bulb" in the wire that is shown in the insturction photos. Would that make any difference?

You need to make sure that you have the right software in order to do this. you also need a dvd burner and software.

How do i upload the disk onto my mac at home. There isnt a tray dvd-rom it is an ejectable disk format. I put the mini dvd in and nothing happens...seconds later it ejects.

You're fortunate the disc ejects. Many slot-loading DVD drives will get these mini discs stuck in them. You either need an external tray type DVD drive (some are $50 or less) or borrow a computer a tray type DVD drive with either the possibility of copying the data to the hard drive and then to a full size DVD (or dual optical drives (only one needs to be a writer) to copy from one to another). Check the specs for mini-disc (8 cm) support.

I wish that I could be of more help.

What Fire Wire should I use to copy a DVD on a Philips DVD player to my Canon MD160 camcorder?

It was only after I wrote to seek your advice that after reading the instruction manual again I discovered that the Fire Wire port on my Philips DVD recorder/player is described as "DV IN only". This will account for the fact that I have been unable to make a copy of the DVD onto a mini DV in a camcorder through the fire wire. It seems that I will have to forget about copying a DVD onto a Mini-DV..

Many thanks for your quick response to my question

I am trying to copy the DVD I finalized in the Canan DC210 to ano

Simple way if you have two dvd trays in your computer: just pop in the mini-disk in one tray and load a DVD+r, or DVD-r recordable disk in the tray of the DVD burner. Use the burning software that is available on your computer to "copy the disk".Other way:Just popin your mini-dvd into your computer and drag and copy the file folder (video_ts folder)onto your hard drive. Now, use dvd burning software that supports DVD images. I use the free ImgBurn program from: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ImgBurn. (Remember, use "build mode" within ImgBurn to create the "DVD image" that the program will burn to disk.Disregard all the terminology if you don't understand it. ImgBurn is very simple to use. I mention "DVD image" because the conventional type of disk burning (copying documents, photos, etc. on disk) will just create a "data disk" with files on it. Video files burned in this way will play on computers but not on all stand alone DVD players.

I was not prompted to finalize disk after copying from hard drive to DVD...

If your DVD Player is playing burned DVD, then its OK. Before erasing dvd data from your PC, confirmation of DVD Disc on another dvd player would be fine.

How to make copies???????

Not sure whether you have a PC hardware or software problem. Do you have a DVD drive on your PC ? If you have, then this should work
1. Finalise the mini DVD on the DC210.
2. The mini DVD will have one folder on it called VIDEO_TS. Copy this folder to a new folder on your PC hard drive.
3. Put a writable DVD into your PC DVD drive.
4. Copy the folder you created in step 2 to your DVD.
Job finished !

If you want to edit the vieo content you'll need to get some video editing software.
