When I plug in the USB, the screen comes on and says the USB is connected. I can't, however, figure out how to turn the thing on. I don't even know where the power button is... I've tried holding down all of the possible buttons, and I just can't figure it out. It was given to me, so I have no instructions to work from.

I PLUGGED IN MY MP3 PLAYER TO THE COMPUTER AND THE SCREEN ON MY MP3 PLAYER LIGHTS UP BUT the normal screen image for when you normally plug it into the computer ISN'T THERE AND I CAN'T ADD MUSIC ON MY MP3 PLAYER.
I tried to reset and it didn't work, They way I figured out was to shut it off then plug the USB in. Then the screen shows up where it is sleeping, Then hit the power button one time and in the bottom left the USB light came on and in the top right you can see your battery taking charge. Hope this helps, It took me about three weeks to figure out
Hey there Twinkle, The wierd symbol when charging is normal.
The HISPEED thing is because the USB socket you are plugging into is not powered so it won't work at all in this kind of socket. The best way to connect it is using the main USB socket in the PC or MAC you are using rather than an external hub. If you do use an external hub make sure it is powered v2.0 USB.
To fix the ipod reset thing, once you do get it connected to your pc do a software update on it (this will probably come up automatically when you've connected it) or click the 'Restore' button and this should fix it.
boxer_10053 you are right ! People make sure when you plug it in THAT you look at you mp3 screen it goes 'usb connecting' hold it there with your figures untill it shows on your computer screen then slowly move away your hands from mp3. :)
On some systems, the usb does not supply enough power for battery charging, so it briefly comes on, then goes off. Also there are power adapters with a USB plug on them for charging things that use the USB for power. You may have to end up buying one. Though they are very usefull now that more and more devices use the USB for battery charging power.
