Will not play dvds will play cds though what do I do

Check manufacturers Warranty, sounds like an internal issue. If expired, try to update the drivers for it. Otherwise, opening it up would be more of a pain than it is worth.
Best solution - get one of those DVD lens cleaning things, you might even be able to rent one from the library. A cd lens cleaner will do the same.

I have been using DVD Fab for almost 2 weeks now. i think its a good program. Normally i would put a copy of a movie in, then when the movie was done copying, the program would prompt you to put in a blank...

Hi ,
The trial period has probably expired and you can only use HDDecrypter from DVDFab , meaning it will copy to your HDD but not any more to a blanc DVD .
You need to buy the soft or use another burning soft such as Nero Recode .
Best regards .

Nec dvd+-rw nd-6650a stop burning dvds

It's time to replace the defective (and probably warranty-expired) unit.

If your computer is a notebook, not a desktop, it's best to take the computer to a qualified technician, to disassemble your computer, and replace the drive.

CD rom does not read Dvd, need help.

Try the media in some other computer, to see if the media is the problem.

If the HP warranty has expired, then spend $40 and replace the DVD-writer.

How can i burn a file?

If you are on Windows, you should be able to burn a file onto a CD, just not onto a DVD. Did you want to put it on CD?

If so, the manner in which you do that would depend on whether you are using Vista or XP, but both are basically the same. There are a couple of basic ways to do this. If you only had one file to copy, for instance, you could right-click on the file, and in the options that come up, choose send to CD drive (direct CD or something of that nature - would include the drive letter). Then open another My Computer window and open the CD/DVD drive. You wll notice that the choices are different from those you often see when dealing routinely with "regular" files. At any rate, one of those choices will be to write (which = burn) the files to CD. Once you have placed all the files you want on the CD in the window, make sure you have a writeable CD in the drive, and choose the option to write the files to the CD.

The second way of doing this basically is to open both My Computer windows at the same time, and drag and drop files between windows until you have all the files you want in the CD drive window. Burn the files and you are ready to go!

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently and/or more details regarding the situation, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution. Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

CD Drive not Ejecting properly

Hi, Since the warranty period has expired I will assume that the CD/RW has been in use for some time. Normally a small belt powered by a motor drives a gear that slides the tray out. Sometimes this belt is loose, warped or plain cut. Replacing the belt should solve the problem. You have to open the CD and it is near the front just below the tray. In other instances, the grease on the toothed railing at the sides and/or underneath the tray gets gummed up, cleaning and repacking with new light grease should take care of that. Rarely (but still does happen), the motor itself burns up and replacement (if you can get the part) is in order. An interim fix is to push a small straightened metal paperclip at a small hole below the tray cover/lip and slightly push till the tray partially opens. You can then manually pull it out. Hope this be of some help/idea to you. Good luck and kind regards.
