Lite-on DVD R/W combo LH-20A1L BLO5 Blank discs not recognized

I have a Lite-on DVD R/W combo LH-20A1L BLO5.It's brand new.
I am running a Biostar P4M900 board with a P4 3.02 ghz processor,and 2 gigs DDR2.
When a blank cd or dvd is inserted, the icon changes to CD-ROM.It will not recognise either type of media. It plays cd's and dvd's with no problem, but will not function as a burner.I am using Nero 7 which came with it,and even tried to upgrade the firmware from lite-0n.When i tried to upgrade it ,it says it is for a different burner!
Very confused.Hope you can help!

I have the same drive and am using roxio for burning. Burning seems to work ok, but the lightscribe feature will not recognize any lite scribe disks.

And you are right the bios upgrade on their web site says it can not upgrade because it is a BLo5 and not a rev 2.

I will be calling NewEgg for some kind of replacement.

I have the same exact burner and same problem. it does however burn CDs but will not burn dvds and doesnt seem to recognize any blank dvd media types. I bet the first author if he tries to burn CDs it will work for him as well, but he was probably trying DVDs.

I have BL05 firmware, sata set to IDE in bios (as ive read it should be, if its set to AHCI it wont work). it reads cds/dvds, it burns cds, it for the love of christ will not burn dvds. These burners SUCK! i got 2 of them for 2 PCs and both are having problems burning a lot of media types, and neither can seem to burn dvds. what the HELL is wrong with LiteOn, they used to be so good, now they went down hill. never buying liteon again.

Have you checked device manager to see if you have a yellow checkmark on your DVD./CD drives? if ok, sounds to me like the maker of the LH-20A1l BLO5 either needs to fix your problem or replace it. The Nero 7 should enable it to work correctly.

Actually, go directly to Nero to see if they have an upgrade, or redownload your Nero 7, which might be corrupted.

Lite on dvdrw lh 20a1l wont play cds

Hmmmm.... Most new DVD drives have the problem.
Clean the cd with water and shampoo if it is having too much scratch. Try after drying. Is that helping?

NO? Is that CD working in other drives?

YES? Then you better replace the drive if it is under warranty.

Cpu doesnt recognize new drive

ok i may be able to help, first of all i must ask if you plugged the cables in correctly and didnt forget the power connector.
secondly, have you been into the BIOS and checked weather or not the device shows up there? to access the BIOS (basic input output system) usually you have to repeatedly press the delete button or F1 button as as the PC boots up(before windows loading screen). If you see the device in the BIOS then you should unplug the drive and return it to it manufacturer. If it does show up in BIOS, also check to see weather the drive is compatible with your current version of windows, this also includes the service pack you have installed. if the device does not show up in BIOS then check the cables again, check for any phsyical damages and return to manufacturer. if this dosent help you im sorry, but theres not much you can do if hardware decides it dosent wanna play.

No DVD sound LiteOn LH-20A1L

The audio lines from the DVD player should be hooked up to the sound card.  If the two audio wires are not connected, no audio will happen.

Burner not recognized

have you tried another burning application, If it works as a normal dvd/cd drive then I cant see any problems with IDE cable config as stated by Bear001, Does Nero 7 reconise the dvd burner, you could look on neros website to see if this is an issue or maybe use version 6, I have had no probs with this version, let me know how you get on and good luck!
