Question about Palm M100

1 Answer

Static screen Well, I suppose it can't hurt to try, although I'll be very surprised if there's an answer that doesn't involve the trashcan. I got a Palm M100 several years ago, as a gift; it worked for a little while, and then it died. I remember it being somewhat gradual, but I'm not sure - it was quite a while ago. By the time I'd gotten ahold of the person who had given it to me and they had dug up the warranty information, it wasn't covered anymore... I just came across it again in a long-packed-away box, and, well, I'd really liked it while it worked. I put in some fresh batteries and tried it out, and, of course, it still has the same problem it had before - no better and no worse. It turns on, but all that comes up on the screen is a static pattern. I cannot, in fact, turn it off; if it has power, it puts up the static. None of the buttons or poking at the touchscreen have any effect at all. Wait - that's not quite true: The reset button in the back will clear the screen for a moment, so *that* can turn it off briefly, but then it goes back to static. So, I presume the same conclusion I came to years ago still applies: It's dead. But it can't hurt to ask...can anybody suggest anything I might try? Wild solutions that involve opening it up and mucking about with the electronics are entirely welcome, if there's any chance of that helping and somebody knows what I might want to muck with - it sure can't get any *worse*, and there's no warranty to void... Anyway, thanks for reading, at least!

Push the reset button along with the power button. That resets all memory in it and tends to fix the static fuzz.
FYI: The static show on the screen after putting the batteries in backward.

Cant start my calculator although i have changed battery. Before this completely broken. Sometimes it cant start too.. I have tried removing battery and reinstalling. Thanks

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.
If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we'll go on from there.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am tail lights and instrument lights dont work

Hers something you can check quick. Check for power at the INST LPS fuse with the head light switch on. If there is no power the headlamp switch is most likely the problem. It wouldn't hurt to see if the TAIL LPS fuse has power as well. Ifit doesn't than I can get you some more info thar. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

I got a shock (static, it's winter here) and then the source menu started flashing on the screen and continues to do so. None of the buttons are working now (on the unit, or the remote) and I'm unable to...

I would suggest you pull the AC plug overnight to see if this will reset it. There are components that may take hours to discharge. If this doesn't help, you may have killed the IR receiver (or the cicuit that follows it) although it should happen on any newer consumer electronics that is properly designed and tested.
Both the set-top buttons and the remote eventually act on the same control circuit and if that has failed, it will not respond to remote or local control.

Where is the reset button? drying clothes and it kicked off and will not run unless I hold the start button in

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

To answer your question "where is the reset button?" I`d direct you to the back...if you haven`t already.

It will look like this...

7995fe6.jpg

If you push this to reset and the unit works, great. I would keep an eye on it though since the hi-limit typically trips for a reason such as a plugged lint filter, plugged vent ot partially plugged or the heater itself is plugged up with lint.

Take the lint filter and clean it under some warm water and soap as they do become plugged with wax over time due to fabric softener and static sheets.

If it doesn`t heat or start after-wards or it`s not tripped, you`ll need to investigate for a faulty heater element.
This is quite involved, so we`ll cross that bridge when you get there...if necessary.

Keep me posted on your progress or what you find.

Good luck.

Macmarkus :)

Replaced power socket on motherboard. Now it will not boot with the recovery disk. Screen is blank. Did static destroy the board? How do I know. Computer worked fine before repair.

Who done the repair? Thats not the easiest job to do considering what you have to break down to get to that cornor of the board. If a shop done it you should be able to take it back and you already know the answer to your question about static. If the job was done sloppy and the sodder got to a part of the power grid on the board there would be your issue. If the sodder got where it wasnt supposed to be your looking at a dead shorted board. I charge about a hundred to do that job although the part is only $2-$3 dollars the time it takes to do it right is about 2 to 3 hours. If you done the job yourself this will be an expensive lesson of why you buy a $5 static band when breaking down a laptop or any static sensitive device. Honestly although the damage may be done and your feeling frisky BUY the wristband tear it down again look at your sodder job you may get lucky......Best of luck hope you get it going

Nikon D200 - problems formatting card

To use the two format buttons:
Press the "trashcan" format button and hold it. Then press the "mode" format button and hold it. Hold for approx 3~4 seconds. The screen will go blank and display "For" and the number of shots taken on the card.
Release both buttons. Then press the "trashcan" again followed by the format button. The screen will go back to normal, except the number of shots indicator, it will display "For". In a few seconds, your card will be formatted.

Although this may not solve your problem, you may have bad CF Card.
This is normal. Happens all the time.

Try another card. It should format fine. If it doesnt, take your camera to an authorized dealer/repair shop for maint.

I dropped my garmin 750 nuvi and now there are grey stripes on the screen. half of the screen is dark grey and the otherhalf is grey and white moving stripes. it is only a month old but doubt if it is...

Although the problem is not fixable without replacing the entire LCD touch screen, you may still be able to get a replacement through the warranty program. It never hurts to ask and you may be surprised. Many companies want their customers happy and they may replace your unit for you. You might have to "forget" to mention that the damage was your fault. But trying to do the repairs yourself will definitely void the warranty.
