Question about Epson Stylus C86 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

C86 Epson Stylus

There are several people who say pull out the sponges and clean the tubes underneath. (My black ink still works but the colors have stopped). Are they talking about the long sponges running directly (width wise) left to right when you open the printer. Or, is there another sponge to the right where the ink cartridges sit when idle? I don't want to tear up the long sponges since they appear to be pretty solidly locke in with many tabs, etc.

I found the sponges they were talking about and my color sponge is SATURATED with ink and almost totally flattened. Probably from me trying to clean the heads like they (Epson) suggested. I guess I'll try and remove it, little by little and see if the purge tube(s) needs cleaning. At least I still can print in black.

Thanks again for trying to help!

Hmmm...well..there's nothing in the service bulletins that suggest that. There IS a note related to replacing those sponges, since they do wear and dry out, even when worked properly. I usually decline to do a sponge bath(he..he) even if it sounds like a good idea. That ink gets into everything, and is tough to remove.

Epson Stylus C86 smearing

Your printer has ink build up inside it. This comes from cleaning cartridges and builds-up steadily over time. Remove top cover. Wet a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol (available at drug stores) and clean the inside. use a cotton bud where the swab gets entangled.

Epson stylus C86 will not print clearly in black

No doubt this is the result of some clogged print nozzles in the print head.

I have a C86 myself, and have ignored it for about 3 years. There were full cartridges in it, and now they are full of sludge instead of inks. The print head itself is probably full of solid ink (dyes, actually) too.

I love this inexpensive, easy-to-use printer. It is quick, quiet and inexpensive to run, and I have no desire to purchase a replacement.

Go to Ebay, look for the Dr.EpSun Majic Inkjet Flush Store (link should work)and locate the flush for this printer - with shipping about $25 US.

They claim a 100% Money-Back Guarantee if it doesn't work. I'm going to buy a kit myself right now, hope it works - I do miss this printer PLUS it works on MS VISTA with no added drivers!

Epson C86 print head/cartridge head won't move.

Hi Beverley

There is some confusion here. You say "ink sponge needs replacing" in an Epson C86 (although you have your query posted under HP Officejet 5610!) - I presume you mean the waste ink pads. If so, you need to dismantle the printer - the pads are not under the print head but deep inside the case. I can provide all the information you need to complete this task if you really want to do it yourself. Please post a new comment requesting this assistance if you do.

Black and white not printing correctly, color is fine

If you are not using Epson ink, your printer will do this. Epson printers hate knock-off ink. Always use Epson ink if you want to keep your printer working properly. To solve the problem you are having, try cleaning the ink tubes. Make sure you re-install them properly. Hope this helps. Charlene

Will not print ink

Take off the rigth side of the printer it snap off used a plain screw driver and pliers be careful taking it off.

Pull the whole plastic ink compartment out .

Take off the two tubes going to a small hub clean the black tube about three inches long. Then clean the clear tube with a green line on it. Put every thing back. Good Luck

No ink on pages

Jeanne: I have the same problem. Seems to have begun after I tried putting the printer on a wireless network. That didn't work, and now, neither does the printer. I downloaded new drivers, in addition to running the utilities. If you want to try that, go to http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=41661&prodoid=46048263&infoType=Downloads&platform=All Please let me know if you have had any luck finding a fix for you C86. Sorry about the accidental rhyme. This ain't no laughing matter. windwing@sbcglobal.net
