Wrong ip address. No fix w/ipconfig/renew

Returning 169.254.11.122. Need ip address starting with 192. Tried ipconfig/release followed by ipconfig/renew. Get "request timed out" running xp Microsoft onecare I have three computers all with this same config and same issue. For no apparent reason the problem will clear. Recently it does not clear on my laptop. Help.

192. is the beginning of a default gateway IP address and is usually only assigned when you are using a router. I recommend connecting to your router.

2 computers have the same IP address

1st find the two computers or items that have the same IP address by following the step to get to the command prompt on computers and laptops. If one is a printer you'll need to go into the network settings to look. Pick one and go to the start button and on the start menu find the run or search and type "cmd" and hit enter. This will open the command prompt window. Type "cd\" to get back to the root (c:\>) now type "ipconfig" and hit enter look at the IP address and make a note of it, next type "ipconfig /release"(leave a space after ipconfig) and the computer will wipe the IP Address, next type Ipconfig /renew (leave a space after ipconfig) and it will pickup a new IP Address. check if it's the same or different from the one before. If it is different you are done.

My acer aspire 5630 will no make the connection to the internet using the wireless. if i hook it up hard wired it works fine. I also tried a USB wireless but it would not make the connection that way...

Try to release and renew the IP address:
  1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.

  2. Click Run... on this menu.

  3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.

  4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).

  5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.

  6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).
Tips:
  1. If it is not necessary to view the current IP addresses on a computer, simply type 'ipconfig /release' or 'ipconfig /renew' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears in Step 3.

  2. To bring a computer back onto the network after moving it to a different location, or experiencing an unexpected outage, first release, then renew the IP address. Computers on DHCP networks often (but not always) re-establish network connectivity automatically.
