Reinsert cassette when I insert a tape, the screen flashes "reinsert cassette". So I guess the camera has a problem recognizing the tape. What might be wrong? Reinsert the cassette appears on screen when I close the holder

Reinsert cassete errors - tried to reset - still not working. Bought casette cleaner - but handycam will not accept the casette. Any other solutions out there? Thanks in advance!

I bought a head cleaner tape.  It will not "play" in my handycam.  I've tried reseting and whacking it. Nothing. I still get the 31:22 message, I think that was the number.  If I press reset while the cleaning tape is in, I get a tape is locked message.  I will try the recommended tape cleaner later today since I have a standard Radio Shack one now. Hopefully that works because now the pictures are not showing up/playing on my camcorder at all.  Before I just had the 5 horizontal gray lines! Now nothing! I don't think I'll be buying a Sony again. I haven't even had this camera a year!

Turn the unit off and hit the back of the camera twice near the battery compartment with the palm of your hand. Sounds crazy but it worked with my camcorder Sony DCR-TRV480. Problem started when I used 8MM Head Cleaner. I think the roller got stuck inside camcorder. The trouble code came up C:31:22. Hope this helps.

I lightly bonked the attached battery twice, pushed the reset button under the volume buttons, then I ran the head cleaner cassette 4 times because I have never cleaned the camera's heads. Now it's playing tapes.

When i try to record it dosent let mi and in the screen it shows a tape with a line through it. what do i do?

The tape with line through it indicates that there is some issue with tape/tape mechanism. I believe that the tape symbol is as follows:
shajanrs_45.jpg

If the tape warning indicator flashes slowly, the reason may be.
  • The remaining tape becomes shorter than the length of five minutes recording.
  • No tape is inserted
  • The write protected tab on the cassette is set to LOCK(red).
If you're confirmed that the reason is not the first and second, it should be because of the write protected tab on the tape.
Don't worry, I will help you with that. Please see the below picture to view the LOCK slide switch:
shajanrs_46.jpg

If the tape with line symbol flashes quickly, it indicates that the cassette has run out of tape.
If the issue persists, please follow the troubleshooting steps and check if that helps.
  1. Reinsert the tape.
  2. Reset the Camcorder by pressing the reset button behind the LCD panel using a sharp pointed object.
  3. Perform a power resetting
  • Turn off the camcorder. Disconnect AC power adapter. Remove the battery pack.
Move the POWER switch to the CAMERA position for 15 seconds.
Move the POWER switch to the OFF position.
Reconnect the AC power adapter or reinsert the battery pack.
    Turn on the camcorder.
If the issue persists, service may be required.
I hope performing the above steps should resolve the issue.
If you need any assistance please get back to me.. Thanks for understanding.

When I insert a tape, the screen flashes "reinsert cassette".

Hit your camera several times with a flat hand (bottom, tape side). Its strange but my problem was solved. On internet I found maybe 10 or 15 other people who did the same.  Really works!
