Msg:supply rec paper

I am receiving a message that says Supply Rec. Paper
Tray :LTR
There is paper in the machine. I have restarted the computer linked to it, restarted the machine itself, removed and added paper. Nothing is working. Can you help?
Thank you.

I have the same problem any solution?

  • Anonymous Jun 02, 2008

same problem occurred with our year old printer. Problem may be stemming from the rollout of the vista platform, although some users are having problems with this and still using windows 2000. Only fix we found was to actually install LTR paper in the tray, any solution would be great.

I had the same problem. It drove me #$%^ nuts. Nothing in the manuals tells you how to fix this but they do acknowledge it exists. Big Help. I basically followed these instructions: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro...

And they did a big 0 on helping. So I got mad and unplugged the unit and left it off overnight. Plugged it in in the morning and the problem was fixed and continues to run perfect.

This is quite simply the worst printer. Multifunction copier I have ever seen in my life...thsi problem you guys are describing is a problem with the printer itself, if you notice under where you insert the tray there should be a little black plastic detector that detects if the tray is inserted or not, if you push this up manual with your finger and notice the error go away, but if you insert the try it does not , then your copier is messed up, and unfortunately its going to cost you hundreds of dollars to have some repair guy come out to your facility to take it apart and realign the pickup rollers, its an alignment problem!!! and on this lovely POS it can happen at any time...my suggestion to you all, would be to get a new copier/printer because not only is this the WORST one ive ever encountered as far as malfunctioning, even when it is "working" it eats toner like there is no tomorrow and they are 100 a shot to replace

For Canon, MFC = Malfuntioning Failure of a Copier

Ya, I had that same problem too; I was printing something that was over printing margins, and then i had the message "supply rec. paper......" on the lcd screen. I ended up fixing the problem by clearing/canceling all the documents i was printing on my computer, and clearing/canceling all the documents saved inside the MEMORY OF THE PRINTER (note the green light with the "memory, in use" which means it's probably still trying to print the document that's too big, so it wont print anything else). (<--- not sure if that was your problem, but it was mine)

Anyways, to clear the memory inside the printer, i pressed the "status monitor" button located to the left of the "B&W start" button, and then i scrolled over to "print status, select job to cancel" and canceled all jobs, and then once i canceled all jobs, the alarm disappeared, and it was fixed XD

Same problem only my MF8180C said ENV instead of LTR. I tried all solutions above (except for calling a technician). I tried to clear the memory, but for some reason it would not let me. What DID work was feeding an envelope into the MP tray (despite the machine specifiying a problem with the Cassette). It printed an envelope from a job a few days prior (when the problem began, I assume).

Then the problem arose again immediately after but specified LTR. So I loaded the MP tray with lettersize paper. The machine printed and Voila! fixed.

If the machine would have let me cancel the jobs, logically this would have resolved the problem as well... but it appears this is not a logical device.

Try to unplug the machine for a few minutes. Turn it back on and see if the message is gone.

This happens all time, here the issue is your sending the job to wrong tray. when its says "Supply TRAY" it means the front paper tray. if it says "cassette" thats the main tray. cancel all print jobs in the status monitor and before you print check if your sending the print job to the right Tray it need to be set to cassette in the property.
btw depending on the software your using it my not accept the defaults given so alway check b4 you print. its seems like a driver issue keep your up to date till they Fix it

I am having the same problem. We've had this printer for over a year and it seems that it has only been since we started rolling out the Vista platform, although now occuring for those users who still have Windows 2000. Only way around this so far is to actually install LTR size paper (change it in the trays), mind you we had to cut down A3 paper to have this.
I've looked on the canon site but no fix yet, anyone have the answer.

Hi there:
I had the same problem and it made me crazy. All you have to do is pull out the paper tray, pinch the very back wall of it (I think it has a blue button to pinch) and slide the very back of it forward so the paper is snug in the tray. Put the tray back in and it should go away. :)
Hope I helped........

Supply rec paper tray - what does this mean when the tray is loaded?

OK, I was having a similar problem: Tray full of paper and tray adjusted properly.

Whatever I tried, the printer kept saying load paper.

I went to print menu>properties button (windows XP this is next to the printer name)>paper source tab.

It tuned out that the paper source had been changed from cassette to multi-purpose tray.

Change it back to cassette and you should be golden.

Machine won't print, copy or receive a fax

With red button stop the copy, or switch off and on.

If you print on this unit make sure that you did choose a right format of paper (A4,A5,...)

You can change the format ap printer properties or preferences

Supply Rec. Paper tray will not clear even with a whole ****

Ok try this - switch the machine off at the mains, empty the paper tray. Push the paper tray back in and switch on the machine with no paper in it. When it's finished warming up it should tell you the tray is empty. Then put paper in. This will usually clear it.

"Supply Rec. Paper Tray : LTR"

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Printer will not print: Canon imageCLASS D320

The paper size selected in the menu system must match the paper size in the rec. (recording) paper tray. If you have 'letter' size paper in the tray and the menu system is set for 'A4' paper you will get this message. Either put A4 size paper in the tray, or change the paper size in the menu system to 'letter'.
