Canon FB630u problem

I have used a Canon FB630u scanner with my laptop for 2 years. Now I get an error code saying... I have a code 19 registry error. I have uninstalled, reinstalled several times, used the fancy uninstaller from Canon, tried to fix/repair my registry, etc., etc. I have 3 registry cleaners, still no luck!!!

Can you help with how to get my registry fixed/cleaned... whatever?

I really appreciate it very much!

    Eagle388,

Here is the error message I get whenever I install my Canon FB630U scanner:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19)

    My email address is edkaeser@comcast.net

    Thanks ED

I have produced the NoFilter.reg document. However, can not find a "merge" by right clicking. However, when I went to open the reg document, I was asked if I wanted to write it to the registry. I did and rebooted. I did that twice.

Now the installer installs it as an unknown item (use to show up in imaging devices). The device manage says the device in installed and working properly. However, when I go to open the scanner, I get a TWAIN error saying it is not able to make a TWAIN connection AND to check my cables, etc.

I installed it on my desktop and scanner works fine. (Just thought I would see if the scanner had a problem... it does not)

I appreciate your help and look forward to getting this thing working.

    Thanks again, Ed Kaeser

    Hi Eagle338,

Ok, I have done all said. System still recognizes the scanner but as Unknown Device. I have completely uninstalled everything and reinstalled as instructed. When I go to activate the scanner I recieve the following:

    1. Cannot communicate with scanner. Scanner may be off or off-line, or cable may be disconnected. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed.

    2. Unable to open TWAIN source. Please check connection. Then restart toolbox.

Once again, I really appreciate all your help!!!

    Eagle,

I have downloaded the latest drivers, etc. Un-installed and reinstalled twice. I still get the same 2 errors about can't communicate with device.

    1. Cannot communicate with scanner. Scanner may be off or off-line, or cable may be disconnected. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed.
    2. Unable to open TWAIN source. Please check connection. Then restart toolbox.

Like I said, I installed the scanner on my big desktop computer and works great. Got to be something in the settings with my laptop. I would appreciate any other suggestions you may have.

    Thanks again...

I have struggled with this same issue for ages, I just found a fix from the HP site for the same problem with an HP scanner - it worked for my Canon LiDE70. Run regedit then:

  1. Double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to open the folder in the left pane of the window.
  2. Double-click SYSTEM , CurrentControlSet , Control and then Class .
  3. Select {6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} and check in the pane on the right for the Lower Filters string value.
  4. Right-click Lower Filters and delete it.
  5. Disconnect the scanning device and restart the computer.
  6. Reconnect the scanning device after the computer is restarted.
  7. BINGO! it worked!

Hi Team,

I had exactly the same problem with my new Cannon MP610 All in One Printer, the Scanner and My Logitech Camera were both being displayed as unknown devices even though the Devices themselves were working this was because the parent class of Imaging devices was corrupt. I fixed this by doing it the following:

  1. Double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to open the folder in the left pane of the window.
  2. Double-click SYSTEM , CurrentControlSet , Control and then Class .
  3. Select {6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
  4. Check that the Class key has the description of "Imaging devices" under the sub leaf (Default) if this is blank this is your problem!!!
  5. I exported the same Class key {6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} from another XP Machine.
  6. I deleted the Class Key {6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} from the Registry
  7. I them imported the Key that i had saved from another machine under the Class Category
  8. Make sure if there are any sub keys like 000, 0001, 002 that you delete these
  9. unplug your Printer and Webcams from the USB port
  10. Now delete the following registry keys:
  11. Double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to open the folder in the left pane of the window. Double-click SYSTEM , CurrentControlSet, ENUM, USB, do a search for your scanner and Webcam by name and delete the Parent VID Entry, please be careful to only delete the specific VID USB entries for your scanner and webcam.
  12. Finally go into Device Manager and uninstall the Scanner and or Webcam under unknown devices.
  13. Reboot
  14. After startup, plug your usb for scanner/printer in, then your webcam (plug and play should detect and setup the drivers etc
  15. under Device Manager you should now see the category of imaging devices and both your scanner and webcam under it.
  16. Final check is to open Control Panel and check under the "Scanners and Cameras" if your devices appear under here your scanner will now work (well it did with me)
Thanks for this posting without me checking the parent class for Imaging devices was corrupt, I would never have resolved this problem.

Best Regards, Charlie.

Make sure the version of your driver is 5.3.2

The one they had before (5.3.1b) didn't work with some update for XP.

    hI,

first uninstall the hardware in your device manager.

then make a new notepad txt document and enter this into it.

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

    "UpperFilters"=-

    "LowerFilters"=-

then save the text document as NoFilter.reg

right click NoFilter.reg and click Merge.

    then restart your machine.

When u boot back up windows will reinstall the hardware and it should work correctly.

Completely uninstall everything(all software that came along with the scanner) Go to device manager and right-click on the scanner and uninstall. Unplug the scanner cable. Then plug it back in and install all the drivers and software. Its gotta work because initially your OS has a problem identifying the device now that we have solved that problem, it should all be fine.

Code 19 Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. To fix this problem you can first try running a Troubleshooting Wizard. If that does not work, you should uninstall and then reinstall the hardware device. (Code 19) Recommended resolution

A registry problem was detected.

This can occur when more than one service is defined for a device, if there is a failure opening the service subkey, or if the driver name cannot be obtained from the service subkey. Try these options:

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration. This rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration.

As a last resort, you can edit the registry directly. For more information, see the Registry Reference in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit at the following Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/default.mspx?mfr=true (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/default.mspx?mfr=true)The registry information applies to Windows XP.

Linux compatibility

Karateng83, Have you gone to the Linux download sites to verify if a driver is available for the Canon FB630U? The next thing to do is to go to Canons homepage and if you cannot find anything there, e-mail them with your request. If that fails, go to Sourceforge.com and verify what is available for Linux drivers. they have a search engine.
