Thank you for your suggestion. It didn't do the trick but a friend came, punched at random and yes it opened. But.......when I try to operate other features, dr pops up.

We kept a cloth between the stove and oven so it wouldn't lock again. Top burners work and the lite by lock button still flashing. But praise the Lord it isn't locked.

Looks li8ke I just might get a new one. Thanks again. hn

if you pull the range out and remove the back panel you will see a little motor with a rod and one or two micro switches on it if one of thoose micro switches is bad or something is between it and the acuator cam will cause this promblem

This failure will only apply to

ranges that have two switches in the monitor circuit of the latch motor assembly. These

switches will be labeled Lock Switch A and Lock Switch B on the wiring diagram. On the

lock motor assembly switch A is the lower switch and switch B is the upper switch. The EOC

constantly monitors the condition (open or closed) of the microswitches and if the switch

contacts fail either open when they should be closed or vice versa, then the EOC will run

the lock motor to try to correct the condition. This will sometimes also result in a fault code

    displayed on the EOC.2

Internal short in oven door light switch.
This is the most frequent cause of the intermittent

nuisance locking of the oven door. On many models the oven light switch has two

independent electrical circuits. One set of contacts serves as an interrupt circuit to the

latch motor to prevent the motor from running if the door is open. The other set of contacts

supplies line voltage to the oven lamp or oven lamp relay when the door is open.

There is a specific type of short circuit that can occur inside the body of the switch which

allows the voltage that would normally be supplied to the oven light circuit to bleed

through to the latch motor contacts and cause the motor to run. This failure is difficult to

diagnose unless you are present at the time of failure. There is one technique that can be

used to achieve an accurate diagnosis when this failure is suspected. Locate the wire on

the E4 or MDL terminal of the EOC this is usually a pink wire that comes from the oven

door light switch. Disconnect the wire and insulate the terminal with electrical tape.

Secure the wire so that it can not touch any other electrical components or short to

ground. With this wire disconnected and secured allow the customer to continue using the

range to see if the nuisance locking occurs again. If it does then there is no doubt that the

cause is an internal short in the body of the oven door light switch.

Where is model number on tappan range about 25 years old

Good Afternoon Esmond, this is Z. I am happy to assist you!

The serial tag of your range, which lists your model number, may be found in the storage drawer, on the right side or on the front of the oven, in the upper left corner, as you open the door. I hope this information proves useful.

Hello, Can't find model/serial number. Older Tappan custom gas stove. Burners work but oven does not. Told it has electric ignition that could be problem. Where to find it, how to remove, where to get...

Serial number labels are usually located in any one of a number of places -

Under the cooktop in one of the corners
Inside the oven door frame (not on the door)
Behind the bottom drawer pullout on the oven, left hand side
Oven back.

If this unit is anything less than 20 years old, there will be a label somewhere.

Reply back you findings and I can give you more information as to how to repair, and we can identify part numbers. You might also try www.repairclinic.com and see if you can drill down through parts when only knowing the manufacturer.

Tappan gas oven dooor won't unlock

We were able to solve the problem by accident. As I think I mentioned the door must of locked when we were cleaning the control panel. Anyway the door locked and the burners would not ignite. The door was open so you were not able to shut it to try and clear it. I searched the owners manual, there were no solutions as to how to reset the Range. I even checked the manufacture's web site. I got down to inspect the door and ran my hand along the inside edge of the oven and there was a button on a spring. I pushed on it and there was a hum and the latch opened and the Range must have reset. It's working perfect now.

Tappan electric range door locked

Check the door lock switch/solenoids. You'll have to unplug the range/stove. Remove the solenoid and check to see if it has continuity or if the solenoids are stuck.
You also might have luck resetting the clean cycle. Even though the lock is engaged, try to open the oven door a little. Start the clean cycle, then cancel it.
