Question about Panasonic KX TGA400B Cordless Expansion Handset

2 Answers

Handset We have this 4 line phone for our home office and have replaced one handset because the #1 key/button would not work. Is there any way to repair this without having to spend over $100 for another new handset? The other numbers work just fine.

I have a similar problem. I took it apart, cleaned the pad but when I put it back together, I noticed the battery getting very warm and the battery icon only shows 1 bar. Can anyone help me to troubleshoot this?

I have the same problem after cleaning my keypad. Reassembled the unit and now the battery shows one bar, it heats up in the charger, light works on the phone but none of the buttons respond.

Anyone know what this problem is?

  • davidcbaker Jan 28, 2009

The manual states that this problem (one bar on battery after charging) means the battery needs to be replaced. Weird that the battery was working fine (talk time, standby time) befoe I took the thing apart.

I have had this problem multiple times. It is apparently a flaw with the keypad on the phone. The keypad emits too much oil and causes it to stop working. I've sent my phone in twice to get the keypad replaced (there are companies selling replacement pads on ebay), otherwise, I've just learned to take my phone apart, wipe off the contacts and it works fine.

Yes that is a common problem, and you can send your handsets in for repair with a number of options. There is Panasonic in McClellan Texas that is of course the most expensive, and I believe they exchange your handset with another. Then there are independent facilities that are less expensive and sometimes better, where you normally get back the handset you send in but repaired/refurbished, etc. But you do get what you pay for, just like everything else. You can do a google search for "Panasonic Cordless Telephone Repair" and go from there. There are repair deals for full refurbishing, new plastic, new batteries all included to fully freshen up your phone if it needs more than the buttons fixed, you merely need to ask if you think you want to go that route. Good Luck, CG

6. Handset will ask you to "Confirm wipe of all user data"
7. Select "Yes -- delete all user data"
8. Press Menu hard key under "Ok" screen prompt to start wipeout of phone, handset will begin to format handset showing progress with multiple lines of ellipses (....) (camera button can also be used to confirm selection)
9. Handset may take from 5-20 minutes to format.
10. When format is complete, press Menu hard key under "Ok" screen (or use the camera button) when prompted to reboot (Reboot system now will be highlighted)
11. You will see either an open box and the green android graphic when handset is rebooting (or the red DROID eye graphic).

Sadly thats the only process which includes wiping contacts etc. and last alternative.

I had the same problem. What worked for me, after several unsuccessful registration attempts, was to disconnect the phone handset battery for about 1 min and then reconnect the battery. Motorola 580 handset not working

My handset does not connect to the base station. It flashes momentarily, but does not find the base. The base station has a humming noise when the phone line is disconnected and the talk button is depressed. Hum is also present when the phone line is reconnected. The problem was resolved by replacing the 9VDC power supply. The hum disappeared and the handset immediately connected to the base.
