Thank you You are also right about my not knowing much about taking pictures and changing setting to make them come out the way they should-clear and colorful.
I went to the Fuji sight and found the manual & drives. Now I just got to learn what to do.
You seem to know quite a bite about cameras,so I'm wondering if you might know where to purchase a cable to download picture to computer.I didn't get one with the camera.
Thanks again you've help me more then you know.
    ron m.

I'm going to assume that the camera is in proper working order and you just need to correct the settings and learn to use it.  I'm also going to assume you don't have a manual.
I suggest you check out a review site or two that specializes in explaining basic functionality of the camera:

is one.
Also, I suggest you get and read the manual.  It is available here on Fujifilm's website:

Note that this page also has drives and such on it.  Note also that the full manual is on the page that you get to by clicking the link "See all 4 Manuals & Brochures for Findpix S5200".  Or use this link:

Finally, I suspect the cause is that the camera is set to a exposure compensation setting that is over exposing the images.  Page 43 of the manual shows how to change that.
Please let me know if you need any more help.

My photos look like they have been taken through venetian blinds

I had posted a solution to "lines on photo's or over exposed photo's" on my tips page covering most digital cameras but just recently I noticed my whole page has been removed and I am waiting to hear why.

Basically, lines on photo's or over exposed pictures in daylight are due to the shutter not closing over the lens completely.

It is a mechanical fault due to dirt/ grease or moisture on the shutter leafs sticking them together.

Try buying lense cleaner to remove fingerprints, smudges and other 'particles' from the optical lense. Call Fuji, let them advise you.

Fuji Finepix S5200- Problem with autofocus

Hi I had exactly that problem and in frustration left it in the cupboard for 2 months and then it worked again perfectly, but the same problem has reappeared, I have had a quote from Fuji in Singapore s$246 for new lens and it is only 2.2years old! Can sympathize and would think twice about buying another or even fixing it.

Overly white pictures

This may be due to jammed iris at fully open. You are over exposing the photographs. if the iris is stucked due to friction a little tappin your camera from side may help you.
