Question about Paxar Monarch 9855 Thermal Printer

2 Answers

Paxar 9855 The labels are coming off the liner when I run the Paxar 9855. I think the labels are sticking to the ribbon. I think it is a heating adjustment (turn it down), but I have no idea how to take care of it.

I know what the issue is. I have a Monarch printer, but I bought it secondhand. Monarch will not help me with the problem because of that fact. The heat setting it too high, which is making the label de-laminate. It needs to be turned down. Again, Monarch will not aid this problem. I've had this issue with Sato as well, but Sato is user friendly.

If you have not found an answer to your issue, you may wish to call their tech support at monarch.com.

Labels are supposed to come off the liner, but if you have the supplies or ribbon loaded incorrectly, or if you have adhesive coming in contact with the ribbon before the media indexes to the next label, I can see where the ribbon can get attached to the labels.

You shouldn't have any slack in your ribbon when the printer prints, and if you do, you may need to make minor adjustments to take up that slack.

As for a heating adjustment, I'm not sure what you mean, but there is an adjustment to increase the printhead temperature, but that is only to increase the contrast on your labels, and should have zero effect on your reported issue.

Contact monarch.com's tech support line if you find that the data in this response isn't able to guide you to the culprit.

Here is the link to the 9855 operator's manual. Page 101 of 132 shows you how to replace the printhead. It's a pretty simple procedure.

I have a Monarch Paxar 9416 Printer and can't get it to align correctly to print. It comes out 3/4 of the way and errors out. It won't do the last advance to align correctly.

Sounds like you might either be using the wrong size supplies (wrong length compared to the data going to the printer), or you might not have the correct indexing set on the printer. If you choose a blackmark setting for the index (black mark on the back of the liner so that the printer can detect when to stop), but your printer is set to die cut (no black marks on the liner, only spaces between your labels), then the printer can become confused on where to stop. The same goes for the visa versa of these marks.

Lastly, if you are using a ribbon, or are supposed to use a ribbon, you might find that the printer isn't working because of a ribbon fault.

Just in case neither of these help, what software are you using to make the printer print? Maybe I can help further.

If the printer display just shows Ready, but doesn't print, there could be a few things wrong.

1 - no data is going to the printer
2 - data is going to the printer, but it is not the printer's native language
3 - cable connectivity issues
4 - wrong cable is being used
5 - if wireless, data is not going to the correct IP

If using a 3rd party application, make sure that you've chosen the correct Monarch printer, as well as printing to the correct port. Sometime people print to LPT instead of Serial, as an example.

If using 3rd party drivers, make sure of the same thing.

To see if the printer actually works, press both of the arrows on the display, at the same time, after the printer is at the ready screen. As long as have the printer configured correctly (ribbon, supply type, etc.), the printer should print out a couple of labels.

Your software wouldn't care whether it's a 9835 or a 9855. It can't even tell the difference. Are your supply settings and communications settings the same for both printers? Any error messages on the display when you print?

Printing duplicate labels. Switched from the 9840

The printer shouldn't print the same barcode twice. As long as the data is exactly the same, and the supplies are exactly the same, these two printers should be acting the same.

Are you using a 3rd party software application or driver? If so, you may need to contact them to help you adjust the issue, but longoftheshort, if the printer details are exact, like above, then the printer is duplicating, likely, because it is being told to do it. Since the printer cannot arbitrarily reprint a label, it must be told to do it. That is either done through data, or it is done because it didn't finish the job on the previous label and may do it on the followup label.

9855 ribbon take up reel not working

When you're sending data to the printer you're sending a command that is telling the printer you're NOT using a ribbon. When the printer receives the data it's shutting off the ribbon. Check your software.
You should be set for THERMAL TRANSFER.(RIBBON)

Invalid Command

Your 287 error has to do with an incorrect setting for printhead width, and in the control language that your software is sending to the printer, they either have something other than 0, or there is an invalid character like a carriage return or line feed being sent to the printer.

This is a difficult one to trace since the software sends the code and you cannot necessarily change what is being sent.

Please note that the software that you really should be using is PC Mate Plus, as this is a specialized printer for Paxar supplies called Care Labels. You may be able to cheat if your software allows you to select 300DPI print heads. If not, you'll need the software I suggest.

If you do not have this software, please contact Paxar (now Avery Dennison) at 1-800-543-6650 and ask to be connected to someone in technical support or if the customer service rep can offer you a link to a website for software download, or purchase.
