There is nothing else on it other that the sockets and the on/off switch and a blue light on the front.

Just plugged the Iomega MDHD250_u, P/N 31641200, assembled in Thailand and China into my notebook which came loaded with Vista Home edition. The drive does not show up. Do I need to install a driver? I thought this would be plug and play.

    Thanks.

It's a PATA (not sata) hard drive enclosure...and yes you can have a 7200 rpm or even a 10k one inside. Most likely, the one inside would be 7200 rpm. You can verify this easily by connecting to the PC and going to the device manager--> disk drives and there it will be shown as a usb drive or something like that. Make a note of the Hard Drive serial number and do a google check to find out more about the drive inside.

Hope this helps

Attach the cable from the external hard drive to an available usb port on your mini. Here is a link to the Guide provided with the unit if you do not have it. There should be a setup section. Use this drive to store all your pictures, music, documents etc.

try getting a new power cord from iomega, If that doesn;t work, the drive is probably corrupted. They are under a year warranty. You ship yours to them and they will send you a new one. Try the free chat on Iomega

Does this happen when you connect your external hard-drive
to some OTHER computer? If so, then the hard-drive has a problem.

Yes. The MiniMax is designed to match the MacMini from Apple and comes formatted out of the box to work with a Mac. (One of the few drives that is!)
I think Iomega supply various Windows drivers on the CD
