ZyXEL Ethernet Bridge Won't Connect

I have two ZyXEL G-470 wireless ethernet adapters (bridges) which I am trying to connect to a Linksys WRT54GS router running Tomato firmware. The first bridge (either one, doesn't matter) links fine. The second refuses to link, or links sporadically. I can only get it to stay linked if I attach a wired cable to its WAN port and enter the admin console. It then links immediately. However, after a few days, the link becomes sporadic again, and eventually both bridges lose their links. I contacted ZyXEL tech support but they couldn't re-create the problem (they didn't have a Linksys router to test with). I even got a third bridge and it does the same thing.

I suspect the router, although it supports every other wireless device on my nextwork (I have 4) without a problem. I have tried different configurations on the ZyXELs (MAC cloning, static IP, DHCP, only b or only g modes ... with no success.

Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks, but already tried different channels on the router, including channel 1. I think, though, that you are on the right track in seeing this as a router problem, because changing channels did improve (but did not eliminate) the problem. I know that the Tomato firmware still uses the Linksys kernel, meaning that (to my thinking) the problem lies inbedded in the Linksys software. Can anyone add to this?

The i =ndications are quite clear it's a concern with router's wireless reception...try to reconfig wireless settings on your router change channel to 1 if still the same router is not sending wireless signals properly..

I have a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter and a Cisco/Linksys WRT54GS Router. The signal is extremely poor even though the router is only 10 feet away. It does not appear to be an interference issue.

You can update the Linksys Firmware to a newer version if is available, please check the Linksys support site
Another chance is to change the Wireless Channel maybe 11, to avoid any intereference with wireless phones.

Can I hook up a wrt54gs to a wrtn160 wirelessly

Yes you can. You just need time.

Some more detailed info..
It is pretty annoying to do though. I'll try my best to explain. First you have to set one of them up as a wireless bridge (the one you are setting up as a wireless bridge won't be able to use it's wireless for anything else besides connecting to the other router). By doing this you can use the router as if it was a wireless adapter. If you want it to be a repeater and have a wired connection. Set it up as a repeater bridge. You will probably have to install custom firmware (dd-wrt or tomato.. they are both pretty much the same)to be able to set it up as one of those. You will have to download the one for your router and install it. I recommend that you read the instructions carefully. A laptop where you can move around to the routers and set them up is useful.

Be patient and good luck.

Hi, I'm an idiot! PLEASE HELP

you may be suffering from mixed Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling.
The wiring is slightly different and they don't work well when mixed in routers and modems etc. One or the other will work , but when they're mixed it'll do what you have going on here...

I would recommend wiring everything with cat 6 ethernet cabling. Look on your cable and you will find the labeling on the outer casing.

Router only allowing 10mbps

The best and simple method to do is to do a hard reset of the router so that the factory default settings are put back.

If after that it still doesnt work check the QOS may be the port is set to use upto 10mbps only.

If not that then just upgrade to a firmware like tomato or dd-wrt they are very nice firmwares i personally use dd-wrt and its the best.

The port of Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router

What do you want to know about the ports? The one separated from the other ports is the Internet port. that is where you're going to connect the cable from your modem. The other four are the ethernet port where you will connect the computers.

Linksys Wireless WRT54G vs. WET54G

For what it is worth, I fhave found streaming video does not function well using a wireless connection. The options of multipale routers will work as long as you configure them as to not have conflicting IP address assignment's via DHCP, and the routers do not have matching IP address's. Never fear all is possible with paticence. BPCS
