Question about Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1" LCD Monitor
When the computer is on its fine. The initial screen comes up with all our various names on. I go to move the mouse to click on my name and the screen goes black. If I turn off the screen again, it comes back on for a second or two until I move the mouse
my old dell 17" crt monitor recently quit working. I purchased a samsung Syncmaster 220wm wide secreen 22' monitor to replace it. It is connected to the computer through a Nvidia fx 5200 video card. The screen works fine on the loading screens but once the windows xp is loaded the screen goes blank if I move the mouse or try to open any programs. I have tried re-installing the drivers for the monitor and updateing the drivers for the video card. I have switched from digital cable to analog cable and back again, without any resolution. The only thing I can think of is thqt the resolution for this montior is somehow overppowering my older graphic card, but wondered if anyone else has had this problem before I replace the video card. I would hate to spend the money to buy a new video card only to find that it was a glitch in my mouser driver or some other softwaqre conflict.
Did it work properly using a VGA (analog) cable? If so, check your DVI (digital) cable against the pictures at the bottom of http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html.
You probably have one of the two at the left. Each has a different bandwidth, translating to a maximum resolution. The native resolution for your monitor might be marginal if you have a single-link DVI-D cable.
My 204B seems very picky about signal-level. It blinks when connected by DVI, even though it should be fine with a single-link cable, and complains about the settings even though the settings are optimal. Maybe yours is similar. I have ordered a dual-link cable and will try that myself.
