You Simply could have what is known as a partitioned hard drive and this will show up as two in My Computer, one is usaly the backup oporating system installed by the manufacture and the other ( C drive ) is the main drive, but they are both on one drive

1. Make sure all cables are connected, does your bios detect the drive on startup?
2. Is the drive formated and set active?

to check if your windows sees the drive and is it active go to your desktop and right click on my computer -> manage -> Disk management.

You should see something like the picture below:
Your first disk will be Disk0 and 2nd disk will be Disk1 If you cant see Disk1 then the drive is faulty OR not connected properly make sure the drive is working with cables attached.
Listen if the drive spins. If it doesnt then something is wrong.

If you can see the drive there then you might not have made any partitions onto it. You can make new paritions to the disk right there, right click on your disk1(your 2nd hdd) and create a new partition. If that is not available initialize the disk with rightlick and blablaa .. I hope this solves it. :-)

ide drive or sata drive? it is a simple job once the case is open look for the ide connector (secondary ide channel connection also located on the rear of the drive is a group of pins read the directions supplied with the drive to place the pins in correct location ) or the 2nd sata connection plug them in and plug the power lead in & re-boot windows should found the second drive.

My hard drive isnt working.the lap top isnt reading it its not going on

If it still has a valid warranty, exercise the warranty to get a free replacement.

Otherwise, open the enclosure, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if the adapter was the problem.

Depending on the operating system that you are running on your computer you should not need to install drivers for the second hard drive. However you may just need to assign a drive letter to the second drive. The links below will help you do this.

My second internal hard drive isn't showing up under my computer, but show in bios, and add harware Maxto 4R060J0 60gb

Your 2nd. hard drive needs to be set up as a slave or master, this is done by the jumper in back of the drive. If you have a cd drive as a slave when connecting with the ide ribbon & are connecting the new drive on a different ribbon it needs to be set as master drive. A little more info on your prob. will help answer your question. When you see the drive in bios, does it say master or slave?

I have a 600gd external Hard drive. I says its connected to the computer and its working, the light is on and everything and i can also hear it. But my computer isnt able to read it

have you formatted the drive yet?  If this is the first time you are using it, you have to format it.  If not, shut down the computer, unplug the USB and power cable from the hard drive...wait 2 minutes.  Plug the usb into the hard drive and the computer...then plug in the power cord to the hard drive.  Wait 30-45 seconds and then start your computer.  Hopefully that should fix your issues.

First enable the hard drive in bios if you havent already .Then if you have windows xp click right on my computer and select manage,it opens up computer mangement, then go to the tab called storage and on the sub menu of storage click disk management . You should see you 2nd/other hard drive (labelled disk 1 at the bottom if it is the second hard drive) make sure its your 2nd HDD ( Look at capacity in properties by clicking right on it) .Click right on the 2nd hard drive and select format press ok when the new window comes up and its finished.
