You have a timer that has been accidently set by someone by the remote control.
If you have an instruction amnual for the tv, it will tell you how to turn off the tv's timer.

Turns itself of

Not sure.
1 thing that happened to me...
I had a TV once that would turn off if I watched it too long. Turns out it had a programmable turn-off-time. It was a feature for people who like to go to sleep with the TV on and have it turn off later.
Does your TV turn off after a specific amount of time?

If its still under warrenty call customer service.

Also maybe do a internet search for "turns itself off" with your exact model number and see if other people have the same problem with the same product. I read of one instance where a particular flatscreen computer monitor / TV had problems with the power supply capacitors going bad causing the unit to either not turn on at all or turn on and off randomly and the company was servicing the unit for free even beyond the warrenty. (I guess they knew they messed up)
My point... find out if other people have the problem and what they are doing.

Wharfedale lcd3210af has started to switch off after 5mins... It will go straight back on when you switch it on and is a fantastic picture but goes back off after the 5mins again ???

does it turn of precisely after 5mins each time you turn it on? If yes, then there is every possibility that the TV timer is set to 5mins and when it gets to that time, the TV will eventually turn of itself.
But the TV doesn't turn off in exactly 5mins all the time, then it is having a power related problem in as much as the TV turns off on it's own.
The problem is consistent with overheating on the power supply board of the TV.
The power supply board of the TV has few capacitors and IC. If any of these IC's gets short or become weak, it can cause the TV to turn off on it's own.
When current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV. The current also goes to the weak/faulty part, then the current stops or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off on it's own.
This is a common problem faced by many other users too. To solve this issue, check the power supply board and read it with a meter and continuity tester, in order to detect the faulty part and replace the faulty part on the board which is short due to which power supply board.
It's a bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician.
You can buy this part at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like ""(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor (capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can buy a refurbished complete power board to save you some stress.
If this task is too technical for you, you can call a family or friend who has the ability to assist you (two heads are better than one).
Good luck.

Last night the set just turned off by itself. When I try to power on, the power light comes on for a second and then it shuts itself off again.

I am having this exact problem. The TV turned off by itself and now when I try to turn it on, the power light stays on for a sec and goes of with a click sound.

Any TV experts who can HELP?
