You can try to clean the scanner light, but the light does not cast a straight one directional beam. It is more like a flood light, if one spot is blocked it will still cast light on that spot of the paper.
Try checking the print cartridge. Normally if it is an inkjet copier, it will leave a line in one spot if there is a defect in the cartridge or if it is running low on ink.
I woul try another cartridge first, then we can go from there.

    http://www.precisionroller.com/find/cano...
this is the website that will help the most.
You will find a service manual there.
Also, many parts that you may need.
You may want to look at the transfer roller in your machine.
If it has worn, ther may be uneven transfer.
There could also be a problem with the laser control.
This website has a number to call and they should bew able to tell you what to look at.

Lexmark E120. When it prints it leaves a thick black smudge about 1/2-1 inch thick down the entire left side of the paper in waves. Is there away to clean something or replace something to correct this?

It's time to take your printer to a professional technician, to trouble-shoot and fix this problem,
if you don't know how to do this by yourself.

My HP laserjet 3015 puts thick dark line down the copy

Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1). Print something. When the paper gets about 1/2 way into the printer, open the top cover. Pull out the toner. Look down at the paper in the printer. Do you see a thick dark line? Replace the toner. No thick dark line, check the fuser for damage.

When you run a copy it leaves a couple thick dark lines on the paper that you copied too.

If you lighten the exposure do the lines fade away ? It most likly needs a drum or a drum cleaning blade. Good luck.

A thick line in the middle of the paper is coming on the xerox copies

If the line goes to the very edge of the copy its the fuser or drum if there is a line that leaves a 1/4 inch to the edge of the copy then its in the optics. -Carl

WHEN YOU SEND A FAX IT LEAVES A LINE HALF INCH BLANK DOWN THE RIG

Does it also leave the line when you make a copy? Lift the lid and make a copy cover up. If it is there on the copy then most likely your scanner needs to be cleaned. If it isnt there when you copy, let me know we will go from there.

Leaves about a 1/4 inch space down middle of paper.

That is the cleaning assembly in the drum cartridge.Either something slipped into the cartridge or the blade tucked. Sounds more like something is in the cartridge blocking the drum from both cleaning and charging/
