Question about Hitachi P42H401 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

Hitachi P42H401 five months old quit working(blinking blue light). Hitachi parts backordered 2 months. What good is it to have a factory warrenty if it takes at least 2 months to get parts. Purchased for super bowl and missed it. Would you buy a Hitachi again?

Same problem blue light flashed is intervals of 2, sound for 1sec then nothing. Set will not turn off from remote, must be reset manually with switch under front edge. No picture at all, when reset goes through same sequence then nothing?

Yup same thing. Blue light blinks twice. No picture, sound, or menu.

Have to use manual power switch to turn off. Can also press the front panel power button and either volume or channel switch at the same time and the power will switch off. But this does not reset anything or get rid of any problems.

Hitachi TV's are a waste of money. Do yourself a favor and don't get one. Mine died after 18 months. No sound, no picture, the blue power light just blinks.... piece of ****. I totally regret this purchase right now.

I have read nothing but pitiful reviews of Hitchi customer service, guess now I'll get to find this out first hand as well....

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM BLUE LIGHT BLINKING NO PICTURE, SOUND COMES ON FOR 1 OR 2 SECONDS. THIS IS FRIDAY NIGHT, AND THE SUPERBOWL IS SUNDAY. I HIGHLY PISSED, AND WILL NEVER BY ANOTHER HITACHI PRODUCT AGAIN. I HAVE HAD THIS TV FOR APPROXIMATELY 8 MONTHS AND IM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON IT. THIS PRODUCT IS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.

Looks like I join the crowd of unhappy people who delt with the blinking blue light and nothing else. 4 days before the superbowl for me! I had my TV for close to 14 months when this happened. Turns out they must of ran out of parts or something because the folks making the repairs said that the folks at the Best Buy extended warranty service said that they will just allow me to take the tv back for a new one. From what you folks are saying and my experiance it looks like I'll be getting something different this time around!! Thank God I got the extended warranty!!!!! gf

Had a sanyo that quit after 3 months. Garbage anyhow... Have had the hitachi since may 07 and it is on most of the time. No problems. as for parts, you are dealing with china these days. And now that america no longer has a viable industrial complex,(and quite possibly a second world nation) we are at the mercy of foreign manufacturers who produce substandard parts, and deliver when they see fit. Way to go america.

Blue spot started out small and now is getting larger only shows up when background of scene is lighter shades.

You have a defective optical engine. The part will run you upwards of $1000 and is on factory backorder at the time. I wouldn't pursue any repair for this kind of investment, but...part number is UX25302R

2007 Yukon - right rear caliper sticking? Breaks squeaking and grinding. Searched all over for part - left available, right on backorder. Is there a major issue with this part? Warranty issue?

Have worked on quite a few of these and have never seen issue with calipers. I do know that you sometimes have to hunt parts for a Tahoe instead of a Yukon to get the correct ones.

Hitachi P42H401 turns on then shuts off seconds later

its most likely the common hitachi fault....its a little resistor that burns out, it happened mainly on the old crt tv's. any tv repair shop should be able to sort it for you.

TV WONT TURN ON. BLUE LIGHT GOES ON THEN THE TWO RED LIGHTS BLINK IT HAD BEEN WORKING THEN ONE DAY IT JUST WONT TURN ON.

I'm going throught the exact same thing right now. After the lights quit blinking, and the blue light goes off, does the red lamp light stay on. This usually means your lamp has gone bad ($200.00 plus). But when I ordered the lamp, it did the same thing. Had to have the certified hitachi repair man come out for the and told me it had to be a bad lamp, so I ordered a 2nd one with the same result. He came out again and had to take the TV away, later telling me the ballast must have blown when the original lamp went bad. Another $200.00 part. I haven't fought this one with Hitachi yet but am going to try. The ballast shouldn'e go just because the lamp goes out. The set is only 21/2 years old and I've already had to spend about $700.00 on the light enging replacement and now this lamp and ballast expense. Love the TV but would expect a lot less problems from a $2500.00 top model Hitachi. I'm going to see if they feel the same way, hopefully not but I'm not real optimistic they will care. Hope this helps.
