Can not find drivers to reinstall lite-on "ltn 487t" DVD/CD-ROM drivers

    hard drive got virus and was wiped clean. All files lost Windows Me restored but the system will not recognize the Cd-rom drive or a drive letter.

    I emailed lite-on, they said windows xp will automatically install driver. They do not have their own drivers, they use window's generic apparently. Thanks for all your help !

U just click right button on My Computer icon then click properties.then click on hardware tab there is box called devicemanager.click on it. then u will gwt a device list.then right click on cd-dvd drves there is short menun in that menu uninstall option click on uninstall .then restart the machine the windows will automatically install u r cd drive

If Vista, some... most manufactors don't have drivers for devices that didn't sell alot. Try new DVD/CD-Rom.

Click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver,roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. or
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or

you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it

I have a particular program disk that is not being recognized by the CD-ROM reader in my desktop. Other disks are recognized and the one in question works on my wife's laptop computer. I'm running...

Cd drive not reconized missing driver




make sure all leads that are attached to your cd/dvd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?

IDE master/settings jumper position for slave on LTN-301 CD drive?


look on the back of the case and their will be some letter MA,SL.CS

the most common position is the middle selection should look like this

CAN I READ DVD?


No. It can only read CDs. You can not burn CDs or DVDs or even play a regular DVD. Sorry.

hmm...in device manager, are they both 'clean' meaning without any marks on them?

CD-ROM will not read any disc


well try to clean the lens with a clean and dry cotton swab. ir you have a compressed air duster for electronics, use it also. remove the drive and open the cover. look for small like circle glass(lens) clean it. use also the compress air duster by hitting the below parts of the lens assembly to remove accumulated dust and test. if the problem persist, its about time to replace your drive. good luck!
