You stated that you not only do not have the user ID but also do not have the password & no XP CD. There are what's called a work around. We can only try one at a time. Start the notebook up & start pressing the F5 key every 2to3 seconds. Windows will go into what is called boot mode. Listed here are many different options to enter windows. You'll have to use your keyboard. So use the Up & down arrow keys move & Choose, (Safe Mode). Press the enter key. Now it may take some time till you see windows so wait for it. The user screen will appear. This screen is different than normal. You'll find a user named, Administrator. This account has no password as it was designed for Microsoft tech support. Click on Administrator. Windows will open & you are now the Administrator. Most of windows is not loaded that is why your screen does not look like your in a real windows environment but you should have a mouse now. What you want to do now is creat a New User ID & New password. Click Start & open Control Panel. Open User Accounts. Click change an account.

Windows will open all accounts in a window. Setup an account for yourself. User Name & password. Windows will not allow two names / Named the same. You can check what your account name was. Leave opened what is allready opened. Right click on the start button, a pop-up window will open. Slide up to Explorer & left click on it once. Windows Explorer will open. Administrator will be opened. Look under Administrator & check the other User Names. You'll see a folder All Users, Default User ect; Do you see your name?

Do you see your friends name? Close windows Explorer.

If you did see your name while in explorer that means your personal data is still safe. Delete your friends account. Windows will ask if you want to delete all data for that account, choose NO. Close all windows & re-start the notebook. Windows should load normally & your User ID should come up & not your friends.

    Post back if this helped.

    My fingers are crossed.

I have looked high & low for the past two hours. I setup a password myself & tried some suggestions posted at this web site & other sites & so called fixes. Not one worked for me. There are three sites I found that may help & possibly fix, to get you into your windows. One is free. Here: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

I want to clarify something. When you start the notebook normally that person who created a user name, it does come up. Right? Mine did. Once you crack his password you'll need to create your own name in control panel, user accounts. If you do not set a password. Your notebook will go strait into windows.

    Here is another site: http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administra...

    And lastly:

http://www.lostpassword.com/windows.htm I thought this was a wee bit too $$ but after seeing the dos like window example. I thought this was pretty cool. Compared to a new Windows CD it all seems cheep. Sooner or later though your going to need a real windows CD & I suggest you buy XP Pro with SP2c. It's much faster than win XP home & more stable. I'll list it here:

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDet...

Please do not buy Vista! The trouble your having now is nothing compared to the trouble you'll have running Vista.

    Good luck...

Forgot your windows logon password????????

So you forgot your Windows XP password? Don't worry - it happens to the rest of us. We're supposed to make secure, difficult-to-guess passwords but sometimes we make them so complicated that we forget them ourselves!

Answer: There are many ways to find a Windows XP password that you forgot!

Try To Guess the Windows XP Password You Forgot
Don't laugh! You'd be surprised how often this works. Before we jump into any high tech recovery methods, try your hardest to remember what your XP password may have been.
Most passwords, even complicated ones, are often inspired by the people, places and things in our personal and professional lives.
Could your Windows XP password have had anything to do with:
  • your name?
  • the name of a friend or family member?
  • a loved one's birthday?
  • your home or office address?
  • a pet's name?
  • a favorite food?
  • a frequently dialed telephone number?
  • something from your childhood?
  • a combination of any of the above?
Use Your Windows XP Password Reset Disk
Assuming you were proactive and created a Windows XP password reset disk at some point in the past, use it at the XP logon screen to change your password.
Your password reset disk will still work even if you've changed your Windows XP password since creating the disk.
Have Another User Change Your XP Password For You
If there are other users that have accounts on your computer, one of them may be setup with administrator level access. This means that the user would be able to change your Windows XP password for you from within his or her account.

Hack Your Windows XP Account With a Password Recovery Program
If you've given it your best shot but that all-important Windows XP password is still hiding somewhere in your mind, then it's time to try something a bit more technical.
Windows password recovery tools are software programs designed to recover or reset/delete your Windows XP password. They can sometimes be difficult to use but if there's no hope of remembering the password and you can follow some simple directions, Windows password recovery tools are life savers.

Still Can't Find Your Windows XP Password?
If you still can't locate your password, even after using the free Windows password recovery programs linked above, you will need to perform a clean install of Windows XP which will erase everything on your PC.
It's drastic and destructive step but Windows XP is serious about security.

Forgot power on pass word

Hi,

This is only possible is you are using Windows XP. If your operating system is windows Xp, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn on your computer and allow it get to the stage where is will ask for user/log pasword
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del your keyboard.
  3. A user name and password prompt will pop up.
  4. On the user name type in "administrator
  5. On the password, type in "administrator"
  6. and you windows will open, go to control panel from there to change the password.
That's all. In other words, the user name and password is administrator.

But in the case of windows Vista, you will have to re-run windows operating system, because vista security is very tight and its difficult to break into its password.

Take care.

Unlock HP Laptop

It depends on the login type.
Most company laptop are connected to the company's network and the user login is into their network. If it is only a Windows user login then this can be reset with a password recovery program, its not available to the average user.

The best bet is to reinstall Windows, this will wipe clean the hard disk and give you a laptop with a fresh clean Windows XP installation which will give you less problems.
You can do it yourself, if not get a computer savy friend to help you.

My friend is trying to get back on her im

Just forget the problem with the current password.
Create a new user name and password.
(The new user-name can be very similar to the old one so your friends still recognize you.)
