Question about Graphics Cards

Dual Monitor Color/Brightness Differences

I use a Dell Vostro 1700 laptop 17" wide screen (with Windows Vista Business) as my computer for work, i dual screen it with a Dell 2005FPW flat panel lcd monitor. The problem is the color settings, and brightness on the lcd are beautiful, never cause eye strain or anything. But the laptop is horrible, its too bright and way to difficult to adjust. I tried but i just made it worse. The laptop came with a 128mb Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS graphics card.
I did notice that the lcd is 1680x1050 Resolution, but the laptop only goes to 1440x900. Could that be the difference?

Is there any way to get the settings on the laptop screen to match the pretty monitor?
Please help my eyes!

Correct the resoulution is not the same. Also you are using 2 monitors and using the system to power these great displays. Just dont hook up a docking station. The picture gets really bad..

Dual monitors display same

When you set up a second monitor, you have the option of duplicating the output (showing the same image on both screens) or extending the screen (making both displays like one very wide screen).
If you need to change this again, the setting is in the control panel / display settings.
The actual settings vary a little depending on what version of windows you are using. But if you get stuck you can post back or comment on your computer's specifics.
Good luck!

DUAL MONITOR SHOWS VIDEO ON BOTH

Are you using Windows XP or Vista?

Anyway, you can set the screen properties easily.

On your Desktop, Right-click it and then choose properties. On the tabs, locate Settings. You should be number 1 and 2 there. If your secondary monitor is number 2, there is a small checkbox below those windows and check the box Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor. Click number 1 again and then check USE THIS DEVICE AS PRIMARY MONITOR. Apply the settings and then click Ok.

If the above works, congratulations. :)
If not, please do not hesitate to post back so that I can assist you further.

I dont know if it will work, but you can always try to instal the vista drivers.
Dell says that Vostro A840 only comes with VISTA.

Good luck to you

Installed New RAM, Now Have Display Problems (color)

It appears something has happened with the video card or connector especially if it displays fine with the onboard video and original memory. Disconnect power and reinsert the video card into it's slot.

Most like the sound card you have is not compatible with Windows Vista. You need to check the manufacturers website to see if there is any patch for Windows Vista
