This could be a bad thing, hopfuly only a driver board has failed and need replacment , Now for the worse case, the panel has failed. If thats the case it almost allways cost more to replace the panel than to replace the set

Well David, it sounds like you need to unplug and open back and try to stick your head up in set and look down into CRT's tubes, you may have phopser damage on one of the tubes, you will need to turn on to see it just be careful not to touch anything electrical

I'm sorry to say that those lines or interference are cause by a hardware failure and no adjustment can correct it.
If your TV is only 6 months old, still cover under manufacturers warranty. Call the manufacturers and ask them how to go about this repair and hopefully they will send you to an authorized service centre.
Hope this helps.

Nakamichi Plasma VU50P black stripe

Yes all set or fixable, you will need to order the y board, or driver board this is the power supply supply the defflection to the screen. I have tried several time to try to fix them, and didn't have luck at all, just a wast of time, there waxed and most of the time can't take part's out because they also clued them.
This process is faster for them when the machine makes the board, parts don't move.
Y board just got one narmaly goes about $400 and up.
This is the reason why most people just toss out there set, and they get mad at the tech, don't know why, it's not there problem they don't make the board.

I would open the back cover to see were the smoke came from, you will see some burt mostfet's or resistors. The part # narmaly is writen on the pcb. Call them and ask them the price. You will see, why most set's or found at the grave yard.

I hope this help's
