Question about Frigidaire GLTF2940ES Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Issue with a Frig. front load

This front load washer is starting and running for approx. 10 seconds then shuts off, after a few minutes it does the same thing - over and over again. Someone told me to check to make sure the magnet was in place and it is. The timer actually moves as well like its doing what it should be. Water starts to come in as well. Any idea's???

    sorry - its a GLTF2940ES

  • JNBApp Feb 13, 2008

Its not the motor - it shuts down before the motor even has a chance to come on. The water starts to fill and then it shuts off, timer keeps moving - starts to fill again and shuts off - this is the weirdest thing I ever seen. Any other ideas?

  • JNBApp Feb 14, 2008

sorry but I checked the drain hose and its not that either. It allows it to fill for 10 seconds at a time, if I change the cycles it does what ever I tell it to but for only 10 seconds at a time - spin, fill, drain - doesn't matter what it is , it only runs about 10 seconds and stops, over and over. Like I said, this is a weird one!

I think we have pretty much covered all of our bases with this machine and have decided its not worth all this. If we do finally figure this one out we will let you know what happened. I appreciate all your help - I guess we can't win them all.

Sounds to me like the motor is overheating and tripping out on thermal overload 10 minutes is the cool down time for reset .ohm the motor to check the Resistance and check the motor control unit for loose connections

ok lol check to see if the drain hose is to deep in the drain looped to low that's a classics if the drain hose is too deep in the stand pipe then its like siphoning gas out of a car it fills then siphons out the pressure switch senses the drop stops fills again siphons will do the same thing if the hose is lower than the water valves go to the standpipe pull the hose up quick and listen if it makes a sound like water running out that's what it was

Front load washer timer stalls causing one of the following complaints:

    1. Continuous wash

    2. Continuous fill and pump out

    3. Continuous spin

    4. No timer movement

Poor electrical connection in part of the speed control board’s code circuit and/or speed control

    board failure.

The following steps are recommended for validation of the circuit:

    1. Remove the 10 pin Molex connector from the speed control board.

    2. Check that the pink wire with black tracer is fully seated and locked in the plastic connector

block by pulling on the wire.

CHECK TO AVOID STRESS ON THE BOARD. If the round female-terminal wire detaches

from the connector, push the wire into the connector block and verify it locks in place.

    3. Remove the white Molex connector from the timer and check that the same pink wire with

black tracer is seated and locked in the connector. If it detaches, push the round femaleterminal

wire into the connector block and verify it locks in place.

    4. Check for continuity of the pink wire with black tracer from the timer to the speed control board.

If no continuity exists, replace the harness.

    5. If wiring is correctly seated and has continuity, reinstall the connector block on the speed

control board. Be sure the tab locks the connector in place on the board. Reinstall the

connector block fully onto the timer until BOTH locking tabs are latched.

    6. Replace the speed control board with PN 131887601.

Please send the replaced board, PN 134149200, to EHP, Attn: Sean Myers, 400 Des Moines

St., Webster City, IA 50595 for analysis.

The root cause of washer stalling in cycle (timer not advancing) on horizontal axis washers

is electrical noise generated primarily by the timer contacts opening and closing which can

interfere with proper operation of the speed control board. At times, depending on ambient

environmental conditions, this electrical noise can cause the motor controller board to

receive corrupt signals and remain on “stand by condition” resulting in the cycle not advancing.

By manually advancing the timer to the next step in the cycle or by turning the washer’s

power off and on, the electrical noise is discharged and the washer will perform until electrical

noise may happen to interfere once again.

To resolve this issue, three jumpers have been added to the current motor controller board

to reduce electrical noise levels around the microprocessor. Testing has proven this change

to the board significantly reduces occurrence of control lock-up. The motor controller board

assembly with external jumpers is Part Number 134306000, identified by an information

label with the number 134058400 Rev C or 134258700 on it. The label may be yellow,

    orange, red, white, green, etc.

134306000 will replace the following part numbers:

If the SCU 134306000 has been replaced and the timer continues to stall, replace with

    SCU 131887601GE.

  • robert samples Feb 17, 2008

well when all else fails do a voltage drop test plug your volt meter in the outlet below where the washer is plugged in take a reading then start the washer and watch the volts

Compressor is hot, but will not start. Just keep hearing a relay / contact clicking ebery few minutes.

Could be bad start/over load relay, or bad compressor. Try unplugging your frig for say 30 to 40 min then, with your hand on top of a cool compressor, plug the frig back in and see if compressor smoothly vibrates for at least 5 min without becoming very hot or shutting off even though fan continues to run. When the start/over load relay fails, it can apply power to both the compressors start coil AND it's run coil at the same time for to long and it very quickly causes and over load situation. I bet your "Starting Components" (start/over load relay) are bad. Any decent appliance parts store will have what you need. Just take in the make, model, and serial number of tour frig.

Top loading Kenmore washer runs for a few seconds then shuts off

It's quite possible, however,

If you're mechanically inclined, I'd check the motor, transmission and pump first.

See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for top load, direct drive washers and it's trouble-shooting section.$FILE/L-55.pdf

See the following for how to pull the cabinet, pump, motor and transmission to check them all.

Machine will not spin or drain water.

I have a problem with my MW512AU. Sometimes it drains after wash cycle, but sometimes it sticks when it goes to spin, doesn't get up to speed, water comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off, and it tries to spin again. If I hit the wash progress switch it goes directly to final spin and works ok. I then have to run a 2nd wash cycle to rinse the clothes. I also noticed a buzzing sound when I turn on the power point, which lasts about 3 seconds before stopping. It will come back on every 3-4 minutes for 30 seconds. This is with the machine power switch off. It powers on normally.

I own a kenmore top loading machine model number 110 10 amp 60 hertz 120 volts the machine gets power and runs but the big control knob that controls the diffrent cycles is running only about 20 seconds...

sounds like you should replace timer (big control) timer motor is part of timer. Is timer knob speeding thru cycle that fast or just start/stop.
110 is manufacturer code for whirlpool, number after decimal is model number. tech sheet avail inside console by unsnapping left and right console covers and removing hidden screw at front bottom corners, pull forward slightly then fold console back (hinged at rear top).

It looks like the door switch was not making because the door is defective. Also the switch may just be bad.
