Theres no books as such on setting the timing-it is something only to be attempted by an engineer. I take it you have replaced the bent needle, cleaned out any debris and checked the other needles for damage too. Also check it isnt hitting the needleplate which may now be scarred. Check needle is inserted correct way around.

My singer tradition 2250 won't stitch without dropping stitchs worse in zigzags or with Lycra, have tried dog foot also. Have tried altering tension makes it worse, you can hear it skipping stitches.

Have you tried a brand-new needle? Frequently, a bent, dull, or incorrect needle will cause skipped stitches.

Also, for sewing knits (lycra), be sure to use a ball-point needle. Likewise, use the appropriate needle for the thread & fabric you are sewing. Avoid using old or bargain bin threads.

If it continues to be a problem, you may need to have it serviced for needle/hook timing.

I 've been using this 2639 Singer since 2006. It was working perfect until one day the bobbin case popped up away from the shuttle causing the needle to be blocked from moving. So, I removed the p

First change that needle. It's likely bent. A bent needle won't create a stitch.

Then double check your timing. It sounds like you have it ******** a bit... But that's hard to determine from a description. Before you start the timing process, make sure that your needle bar is in the correct position. (typically the upper timing mark on the needle bar is just below the lower needle bar guide when the needle is at its very lowest point) If necessary loosen the needle bar holder and make a correction. Once the needle bar is positioned correctly... then move on to the shuttle/needle timing.

Good luck!

Either you have a blunt or bent needle or the needle is in the wrong way round or failing that you may need to retime the machine which is quite likely, if you email me I can attach instructions kendourof@yahoo.com

I cannot get the bottom thread to pick up. The top thread is fine and the bobbin is threaded and in place, but it will not stitch.

Generally, this is because your needle is bent. Even if it looks fine to the naked eye, it only has to be bent the slightest bit to cause a problem.

Try changing your needle. 9 times out of 10, this solves the problem.

Good luck!

You may just have a bent needle or a burr on your needle plate. Is the machine set to a straight stitch? If, not do so. Check these first. I doubt that it is the timing.

Bobbin won't pick up stitch(thread)

Try a new needle, confirm needle is inserted correctly, needle flat side to back of machine. If still not needs timing, take to sewing machine tech.
