First off, if you get the "remove and check" or "incorrect cartridge installed" its the all in one's fault. I've seen these cartridges print perfect in regular printers. It's a firmware issue with all in ones. HP issued a fix called "cartridge compatibility tool" to fix this, but I can no longer find it. Thank HP and their desire to thwart refillers for this one.

Hi,
If you are getting Alignment failed or Align cartridge Error, It could be because of these possible reasons listed below.
1. Faulty Cartridge ( if you are replacing one now )2. Refilled Cartridge ( not filled properly )3. Cartridge Low on ink ( does not give printer enough ink to align the printer )4. Could also be Hardware Issue ( Most of the time the HP Printer has life time of 4-5 years )

First step,
Remove all the cartridges out and clean the electrical contacts ( golden Contacts ) with a lint free cloth and Re-install them again
It should go through the alignment process and complete it.
If it does not,
Try to access the Setup menu and under tools you will find Align Printer, Try this.
If the Cartridge ink is full or has adequate ink ( atleast 30% in each cartridge ), and the cartridge is not refilled, then the last option is to do a hard reset on the printer.
But Doing the reset your printer will loose network connection, all the printer settings and fax logs,
To do the Reset,
Disconnect the power cord from back of the printer ( while printer is powered on )While holding the # and 6 button at the same time, Connect the power cord back.Go through the setup process to re-setup the printer settings,If it still does not align the printer, You may give a try to install using new cartridge ( but i doubt, it could be the end of the printer.)
Call HP and check if they have any good offer or they can help you with aligning the printer once.
Regards,Suhail

Try pressing the reset or off button for a few seconds. Failing that, unplug the printer for 15 min. Let me know if it works, if not, then I will guide you through other steps.

C309a ink level shows low after replacing cartridge with cosco refilled original HP cartridges???

1) remove all the orange tape from the cartridge properly...
2) plug in the power chord directly to the walloutlet
3) unplug the power chord from the back of the printer.. then press and hold down the power button for 30 sec... then release the button.. the plug in the power chord and turn on the printer..
check the ink level...
4) if it does not work press the setup button on the printer >>> press the right arrow and go to Tools >>> clean printhead...
5) after it is done again press setup >>> Tools >>> Align Printer.
after that is done check the ink level again...
if it still does not work follow the next step..
6) unplug the power chord from the back of the printer.. then press and hold the pound(#) and 6 key together.. then withough releasing the button plug in the power chord... after you plug in the power chord release both the buttons... alignment will continue... do not stop the alignment...
after it is done again check the ink level...
7) you can also check the ink level by pressing the setup button >>> Tools >> Display Estimated Ink Levels...
Hope this works for you...

Try holding down the setup button, then hitting the options button at the same time. This worked on my hp 2175. Might work for you!

Press the cancel button. Then press the "setup" and top "copy option" buttons together to enter maintenance. Use the right arrow (right copy option) button to scroll through the options if you like, but then hit the cancel button to skip the alignment.

Well, I had the same problem and came here to find help. When I saw no response to your question I replaced my color cartridge with an new one and it solved the problem. If you just replace yours with a new one, I don't know what to do.

Printer cartridge alignment

Another solution...we were having the same issue, but we found out that our black cartrige was out of ink...and when we replaced the cartrige with a new one, the "align cartriges" message when away once we pushed it one final time...we are in good shape now...yes, we are idiots.
