Call a tech!. You first remove fuser assy from machine. One green screw to loosen and then you figure the trick out to get it out. Then once its out remove cover 2 screws I believe. Remove the lamp gently, you can do this with out unscrewing anything. Then remove the little clip on end of heat roller, simple spread clip and replace gear. It takes a tech about 10 min.

The fuser gear part # has changed to 007E14962 $3.20 You need to call 1-800-828-5881 to order. It took me three hours in the Atlanta area to find that number. No independent service companies will touch Xerox. And Xerox will tell you that your copier is to old to fix. You will be talking to someone in the Philippines. BernyB instructions for removing the fuser assy are on the money, thanks.

The fuser assembly light has come on and my copier will not work. It is a Xerox XC1040. Do I need to replace the entire assembly cartridge ?

You can clear the Fuser error by entering diagnostics. Your fuser may need to be repaired though, so your error might return.
Turn on the power and within 4 seconds press the following sequence: 'Clear', 'Exposure Mode', 'Clear', 'Exposure Mode. The screen will go blank.

To clear the fuser code, select '14' followed by 'Print', then exit diagnostics.
The fuser 126K07390 has been discontinued but people can sell the sub-parts or rebuild them for you.

Xerox XC1040 that keeps jamming

sounds like the fixing unit needs to be replaced, give a call to any copier dealer that services lexmark and see what it'll cost for a replacement fuser, with that info you'll be able to tell if you want to fix or trash it.

I need to replace the fuser gear on a XC1040

You have to remove that small cover on the bottom of the frame. It has 2 phillips screws to remove it. it is the cover about 3 inches high that runs around the lower front part of the machine.
Once you do that, you only have to remove one screw , unplug the heat rod and lift the fuser up and out. It really is pretty easy.

Xerox model # XC1040 flashes H4 when turned on will not make copies ? code

H4 is a fuser error code. it basically means that the fuser is heating up. from what i can see the fuser lamp alone will be about $60.00. that would be the best case scenario if the rest of the fuser parts are ok. the upper fuser roller is 135.00 and lower 144.00.

What is open heat errot

One of two things, both will require a fuser replacement.
Either the over hear thermostat has open, or and most likely the heating element built into the heat roller has failed. Normally the heating element burns out and displays that message, I have not found that roller assembly spared, and even if you try and swap one from a used fuser to new, they are really dificult to change because of the spring end contacts.
In simple terms, replace the fuser and you will fix the problem.

Paper jam on Xerox XC1040

Sounds like the fuser gear (the long rollers where the paper exits that get hot) is broken. It is on the upper roller. Precision roller.com sells this gear.

What you can try is just replacing the fuser drive gear and the bushings on the heat roller.
That small tube your relating to is the heat roller. The plastic like busings are really tight not allowing it to move freely.
Not the easiest fuser to rebuild to be honest. You will also want some high temperature lubricant to use on those bushings and also on the pressure roll shaft to make that roller run smoother.
Clean it well and be sure it is running free.
You need to look at the heat roll and presure roller carefully to check for wear and grooves. If they are worn, you will be better off replacing the fuser then trying to rebuild it.
I will provide you the link to an excellent parts source, click on parts then the scroll down tot the XD125, They have about everything you want for that fuser.
If you call ask for Britt..

Most likely you need to replace the fuser assembly itself.
You can order it piece by piece, but you would have the cost of a heat roller, perssure roller, thermistor, gear and bushings. And that prices out more then a new fuser itself.
They can be purchased for the 200-230 dollar range.
If thats the route you want to take let me know. I can write out the instructions for replacement. It's not to hard to do.
