Are u using a set top box? if so, you have to change the formatting on that box. If not you need to change it in the television. It should be on the remote. Let me Know. GURU jay

Convergence on my menu is no longer there

You need the service manual, I don`t know about these particular set, but on Toshiba`s, you had to press the menu button on the set and while holding that in, I think you pressed the red button on the remote. This got you into service mode. If the convergence went out while you were watching it, I don`t think adjustments will cure your fault, it sounds like the Driver chip may have failed which drives the convergence coils on the tube necks. Is it just one/two of the colours?? Is it out in the centre?? Is it out around the edges?? If you do intend adjust anything, make sure you write EVERY setting down first including EVERY mode, It is a VERY time consuming job and even then you`ll NEVER get it perfect. You have to repeat the whole setup in EVERY mode, eg: Widescreen, 4:3, Stretch, 16:9 etc. You`ll also need a signal generator to give you a steady picture while performing any adjustments and when you alter the brightness and contrast, this will affect the convergence also. DO NOT alter the binary settings of the set, these tell the micro what the set is fitted with, eg: Nicam, Freeview, NTSC, PAL etc, etc. If I remember correctly, there are about 300 settings which have to be performed in sequence and when you alter one setting in one mode, this can affect another setting in another mode. It`s a real nightmare, believe me. The only trouble is, if you do start to alter the settings and you find that there is a faulty component, You`ve got to try to get it back to the settings that they were before you started your tweeking. If you do alter the binary code settings of the set, then there`s a very good chance that the set won`t come back on. It took me three days to sort one set out once and even then the customer complained about the convergence. Ian

My picture is now in the middle of the screen insteadof being widescreen is there a simple way of fixing this or is the tube gone and will it be to expensive to replace

Try using the remote to select from normal to widescreen or zoom. Thing may have changed with the switch to digital only or you may have to rescan all the channels.

TV is stuck in expanded picture mode & won't return to normal

seems to me as a Sony TV. The sony tv has this feature ready in the menu. you can do zoom out ,standard etc,
But the real problem comes when the tv is turn off and then you get back to turn on the tv (lets say next day)and you find the same big heads.
what you have to do is going to the menu same thing but this time look for an option is called picture size default. This option make learn the memory what size you want custom when tv is turn on.This function is in the same page as the picture size page (refer to the user's manual) but has to be the default mode where you want the change.
The problem with sizes now days is some shows fit perfect some others not. and besides that the cable box has those features too(change size of the screen)

What i do in this sony tv to start first is keeping it in the standard size in the tv menu and i defaulted too.

when some size adjustment is needed i do it in the cable box remote control .Once again this example i do it in SONY tv, Maybe you have to post the problem again if the tv is different brand.

Wide screen adjustment does not hold keeps going to default narrow screen

Most analogue TV's do this because the analogue signal has no way to tell the TV that its a widescreen picture.

European TV's that use scart cables have a switching pin on the cable so the digital set top box can tell the TV that the picture is widescreen.

If you're in the US or down under this info wont be much help though.

Hope this helps

It only true is its like one color that is twisted. Remember there is 3 tubes in a projo. Red, Blue, Green. So if a yolk needs turning and the color is not badly out of wack then that makes it that all colors are out and it is hardly likely that all three are turned the very same way(misconscrewed) So this maybe an internal matter. In service menu there maybe a way to align the convergence or crosshatch of all three colors or maybe a resistor that has changed in value. Either way you need someone familiar with the set to work on it.
